switch Teg and Webb and you've got yourself a reasonable prediction. Teg's a guy that's capable of running under the AR this season, but not this early. he needs to shake off a little rust first. Webb, on the other hand, is clearly already in phenomenal shape; i'd guess 8:06 for him. i would also think that Mottram can beat Webb by a bit, so my prediction is:

1. Bekele (8:03)

2. Sihine (8:05)

3. Mottram (8:06)

4. Webb (8:06)

5. Tadesse (8:08)

6. Limo/Fekele (8:09)

7. Limo/Fekele (8:09)

8. Teg (8:12)

What it comes down to with Webb is this: He knows that his AR is goin down. Teg and Fam will probly both run at least 8:10. It is the only AR Webb has at this point and he doesnt want to lose it. There will be other fast miles to go for the AR, later in Europe. Though I would like to see him do it now.

I think it's funny how everyone thinks Webb has a better chance to win/place well in a tactical race. The knock on him his whole career has been that he can't race tactically and only runs well when it's a time trial. Webb suddenly changes everyone's mind with one really good kick. Perhaps his bad tactics and no kick were overblown. It's just funny how everyone's perspective changed all of a sudden after one race.

One aspect of the switch is the Webb v. Lagat angle. Webb trounced Lagat last week and got under his skin. Webb now must maintain his strength aspect while Lagat sharpens his game. Round two will be at Nationals.

Also, as a bonus if Webb gets Mottram in "his" event (as 2 miles must be viewed, relative to their 5000 PRs), then Webb has got Mottram on the ropes (and likely an AR to boot).

In the aggragate, Webb has little to lose here, and quite a bit to gain. A shrewd change-up.

Alan Webb can run under 13minutes if he want to! maybe 12:53 high and low 12:55. If he want to!-

yer just pluck numbers out the air, webb can run 12.53 - 12.55 hes run 2 good early season 1 miles and all of a sudden hes a bettr 5k runner than mottram and taddese etc.

Dont get carried away with one result he did great at reebok but remember he beat quality who ARE NOT ANYWHERE near peak shape world champs are 3 months away for someone like mottram.

however i do think the switch is a gd idea it will stop webb peaking too early and will benefit his miles later in the season, a couple of good 8,s would help as well. but please think before opening your mouth with such a big statement which has no real brains behind it hes run 13.09 which is good strength for a miler but 12.53!!!!!- come on kid

webb does not have the 1000m. it is an old record. the 1000m is not often run in hs, as far as i know.

the easiest record for webb to grab would probably be the 2000m.

I just lost interest in this meet.

I wanted to see Webb go for the AR in the mile on US soil in Nike's big event while he is very sharp.

I could care less about the 2 mile record, AR or WR.

There won't be too many fast miles run in Europe so his odds of getting the record this year just went down.

Let me guess, you two are in high school , right? Why is Tariku going to suddenly trounce his brother after never beating him before? Because he ran a 13:04 recently? Nice run, but...... he's done better, and big brother Kenny of course has done a LOT better. So I have no idea why a reasonable person would predict Tariku over Kenny. Because Kenenisa dropped out of World X-C in the worst conditions ever after leading? Newsflash: Tariku dropped out too, but was way back when he dropped. And didn't he recently get eliminated from 1500 heats in some Ethiopian national meet? A disappointing result.

I'm not knocking Tariku in any way, he's run low 12:50's, and may run nearly as fast as his brother some day. But I just don't see any logical reason to predict he'll beat his brother this weekend. Sure, it could happen, just as Ritz could beat Webb, but there's no logical reason to predict either one of those events will occur. And a world 2 mile record (7:58) for Tariku ?? C'mon. I think some people on here just start typing and see what keys they hit without putting any thought into it. And Webb's sub 8:00 that you are predicting would be a lot more than the first US sub 8:00, it would be the only sub 8:00 done by anyone in history not named Dan Komen, and would be 12 seconds faster than anyone in US history. You're getting a wee bit carried away here.

I think Webb will have a great race, but again, get real.

this is not the bekele of old. he is not the best in the world and just ran an 8:14 in a rabbited euro two mile. if you read that article about his troubles on the site a few weeks ago, it is obvious he is not mentally all there. his brother, meanwhile, will carry the family torch. teg is just waiting for a real race. fam will hang tough but in the end will not be there. webb has been working on top end speed, and it showed at rbk, but is not ready for the lung busting two-mile. new ar for teg.

Did Steve Scott run blazing 2 miles in his early 20's on the way to a 3:47 mile. I think Webb should consult with Scott.

Why don't anglo-American milers follow Scott and Cram's training ideas. Remember both of these great milers have 18 sub 3:50 miles between them. They did something right. I know they didn't burn themselves out going up distances. Actually, in Coe and Crams case they went down in distance to the 800. The two C's 800 times are sick.

I'd be surprised if the race was won under 8:04, I predict the mizungos will be in the 8:08-8:12 range (Teg, Fam, Mottram and Webb in no particular order).

Rethinking, this race will underachieve time-wise, because not enough runners, if any, will go with the rabbit. How many will have confidence to open up with a 4:02, while also knowing that they'll be able to hold off Mottram, Bekele, Webb, Teg, etc.. on a last lap?? I think Webb may be able to, but doubt the others would go with him, as they are either off form, or are probably not ready for an insane time. Webb's already the AR holder and facing top competition (including his countrymen), which was probably the reason for his switch. He'll probably try to beat them, more-so than go for a huge time.

But Alan Webb is a totally different animal than Steve Scott. Webb is and will be much better at longer distances than Scott ever could have dreamed of. Steve Scott himself said that when Alan Webb retires, he will not only be looked at as America's greatest miler ever, but America's greatest distance runner ever.

I have heard from Eurosport yesterday that Sihine will not be running due to VISA problems and that is why T. Bekele is running the 2 mile. Saif Saaeed Shaheen is also out with some problems with knee....its seems to me that the US probably made the same mistake that England did with Samuel Wanjiru before his 10km race in Manchester

Scott maybe right, but before he does that he needs to get the 3:46 mile out of the way.

if the weather cooperates, we might see a sub 8:10?
