had the opposite happen to me. I was going into my sophomore year in HS and on vacation camping with my family in July. there was a series of trails, and i had done about 3 miles or so already as i'm climbing this hill and there's a large pack of other HS runners--tons. so i start gunning it, and get to the top of the pack. there's about 4-5 guys and we start hammering as the miles go on. i'm pacing alongside them for most of the run, which had a net downhill of about 6 miles. the trail ends at this road and they stop and there's all these vans. i said, "whats going on? you done racing? i thought this was a race?" they said, "no, it's a running camp." I ran a total 8 miles with them, and asked for a ride back to the camp site, but they wouldn't do it. i ran back (pretty much all uphill) and it was a long day. by the time i got back it ended up being the longest run i'd ever done up to that point.
