No sweat, but the man we want to listen to became upset. Nearly half the posts here on this thread have congratulatory comments to Henry, for contributing.
We want to see Henry happy.
And I am 'just enjoying'...one great thread, this is!

I was able to go through google's cache, and retrieve the old thread up to 7/5/2006, around 7 pm (page 37 of the old thread). There's still about a weeks worth of posts that were never cached by google though, (7/5-7/11) which I couldn't retrieve. Someone let me know if they have webspace where they can share them publicly, and I will send them along via email.
To Wet Coast,
I was sore this morning I ran 100 minutes:34mwr+50mhc+I6mwd=100 minutes.
I have a 1500 meter on Sunday here in New Mexico,at UNM track. It is Master Meet at 6 PM.
Based on my intervals yesturday, what time do you think I will run?
With intervals of 1 milex2:735,6:40 and 200mx12:47-42 seconds. Can you make prediction?
By the way today is the 42 day of training and I'm ending my six weeks of work-training.
Phase II I have complited 12 days.
henry
Henry,
Who knows what you will do. I would think that if you warm up real well and don't go out too fast, you will run 6:00 or better.
But really I should know how 6:40 mile feels to you...then I could make a better prediction on your 1500m.
Henry,
Are you going to do some short snappy and steep hills tomorrow to create the elasticity in the legs in preperation for Sunday?
Henry,
My guess is 5:45. Just over 90 seconds per lap. Regardless, good success to you Sunday.
There are some good masters runners in New Mexico, Paul Fragua is one (M45-49), nice guy too.
If I understand your process, this 1500m is only a fitness test and not a serious race. Your time will become your measurement stick as you continue Phase II and into Phase III.
Get it done Henry!!
I'll say 5:55.
70 minutes for me this morning and 60 of that climbing hills.
i've heard an unconfirmed rumor about Henry Rono. Just wondering if anyone could confirm it. It goes like this: Henry was running in a 10k on the track. He fell way behind early, and was in fact lapped by the 5k mark. This enraged him so much that he picked up the pace and actually overtook the leaders. He went on to win the race, but i'm not sure what his time was. Can anyone confirm this story?
backonthetrails, that was a great post and you captured the feelings that many of us share being privileged to have this thread by the great Henry Rono. For most of us middle-aged guys who got away from the routine (maybe I should just speak for myself) it was the one thing to get us inspired and I can attest until I started reading this thread, I was wanting to get back to longer running and better fitness, but I was all talk and no action.
One question I have for Henry if he sees this, does he plan on adding any regular strides of 100 meters, I saw his workout and he got down there pretty good with the 200's with 30 sec. rest, I just wondered if he thought consistent strides , maybe on an easy day would be beneficial or not.
Right now where I'm at, I'm pretty hesistant due to fear of soreness. Perhaps they aren't worth that risk and aren't that big of a factor.
I'm still experience soreness, particularly in my hamstrings, after running 3 90 minute runs in a row. Just wondering if any of you other "rejuvinated runners" have this similar question.
Hey 1500 Master,
Based on his 6:40 mile, if it was hard effort do you not think 5:45 1500m to be a bit rich at this point?
At first I wrote down 5:45...then scratched it and wrote down 5:50, then I went to a fav race calculator and the points system used indicated a fair jump in effort for Henry from 6:40 mile to 5:45 1500m - Based on the thought that the mile was not nessessarily full on effort.
BUT the unknown thing, I think, is the 'Henry factor', being the greatest at one time, muscle memory etc...
6:30 - 6:35
That's it.
To Wet Coast,
I will take a day off tomorrow, but sunday I will do the at 5 am for 90 minutes hill climbing to create muscle elasticity.
Remember the 6:40 minutes/mile yesturday. This 1500 meters is less 100 metere which is 20 seconds so 6:40 is like 6:20 minutes for 1500 meters.
But remember the running psychics is different than doing intervals.I still carrying 197-200lbs.
By sunday and taking a day off what time can you make of predictions after many considerations of full strengh that sunday evening at 6 pm?
This is my first time since 1978.

But if it's good enough for Henry...
Well what would you suggest?
I meant 2 hr. as a beginning part is a bit much, unless you have the past talent of Henry Rono.
LOL, Wet Coast. I'm betting on the 'Henry' factor. Heart is worth an extra 10 seconds!
With a 6:40 mile under the conditions he ran, lop of 20 seconds to equate a 1500m time, maybe 21 or more. He'll be focused, motivated, add the Henry Factor, it is possible.
Nothing scientific, simple reasoning. I hope my guess is correct.
Go Henry!
P.S. I wish I could be in the race.
Henry,
(and 1500 Master too).
I am sticking to my prediciton of 6:00 on the button.
Have a great race henry - KICK ASS!

Henry, the good part about running 6:40 miles is that you can now subtract 30 seconds for your 1500 conversion! :)
Good luck. Don't get hurt! If you stay healthy you will reach your goal -- I have no doubt.
To 1500 master,
That is what I thought,I wise you are there and we can run together,I relealise that when I'm following another person I will improve a lot.
Do you know Dave Salazar? yesturday was watching me doing intervals,he told me my intervals looks great with a short rest,he ask
how long do you wait before next run.I told him about 30 seconds until I finish 12 of them.I was so tired and my ears was block I couldn't hear him asking me questions, but I try by stoping several times and he undestands that I'm out shape-I'm working so hard to get back to shape.Ray say "young man'
I say
I'm trying
Dave is trying to break half-mile in 2:06 he recent ran 2:10,and he is lookig forward to run in North Corolina master championships next month.
I ask him if he will run 1500m on sunday,he seem like. he was not sure what he will do on sunday. He was asking me about what could be the best way to improve and get 2:03 world record in half-mile.
