Worse than being a soccer mom?! Soccer can be dull, and games -- even practices -- are long drives away for most people.
Track is an exciting sport, even if you don't have a kid in the race.
So this is a ridiculous post. Doing something fun all day once in awhile is not worse than driving hours and hours every week to watch subpar athletes play only occasionally interesting practices/scrimmages/games.
If you're bored, encourage you child to take up decathlon or heptathlon : )
I grew up playing baseball and my dad (grew up playing baseball) went to every night game. He only went to one of my high school track meet and that was the state meet. i ran the 5000 and he left after i finished. My mom and dad went to about 5 of my college track meets. After graduating college, my dad went to road races and would ask me when I would finish and he would show up about 10 minutes before I would finish. i had 3 other siblings and was fine being by myself at meets without my parents. My parents did not place a priority on sports and it was fine with me. if you are bored with going to the long meets stay at home - your kids likely won't care and it will be less stressful on them. if you enjoy going to meets then go - i probably went to close to 100 over a 6 year period for my kids and enjoyed every minute of it.
