When Valby set the record, she ran 30:50.43. Second place was Jenna Hutchins in 32:52.01. Valby won by over two minutes and ran nearly the entire race herself. Hedengren was pushed to the absolute limit by Kosgei tonight.
Are you salty?
Not at all. It was a great run by Hedengren. But it was not nearly as impressive as what Valby did two years ago. Hedengren was actually in 2nd place with a lap to go. The pacer for Valby dropped out at 5000 in 15:30 and she then soloed a 15:20 and began to lap the field by 5100 meters.
They are going to smash the record. Valby is a runner of the past. Hedengren and the Kenyans are the present.
Just to keep some perspective:

I believe Hedengren is in 30:30 shape and was absolutely not pushed to her limit tonight.

Sure and Valby was a redshirt junior if I remember correctly. She was the first collegian to break 31 and set the stage, but not sure why you think the new record is inferior.

Valby didn’t have to pass anyone. Hedengren did. Hedengren had no pacemaker and led more of the race than Valby did. Advantage Hedengren.

All the bodies Valby had to go around in her race doesn’t count as “passing someone”?🙄
