Wow. Masterful from Hedengren. 15:34-15:13. Lead the vast majority of it and actually had a kick - for the first time I've seen ever her last lap was fastest, closed in 66.1 to kick down Kosgei.

Well my 30:10 prediction just got obliterated. And with a 66 second final lap to boot... amazing!

Incorrect, as that would = 26:30.
But 14:00/13:30 may be correct.
Habtom broke Evans Kurui's 27:37.32/10,000 MR set last year.
Jane broke Emily Sisson's 30:49.57/10,000 MR set in 2019.
Simeon broke Ky Robinson's 13:23.61/5000 MR set in 2022.
And 10 men -- all collegians -- broke 28:00/10,000 while 3 others were at 28:00-point. At last year's SI, 12 men broke 28:00 but 13th was 28:05.
Looking at the three MRs, would select Simeon's 5000 to be the most surprising & my choice for performance of the night. Believe the field he beat was the deepest of the night, which included Kirwa/8:13 Steeplechase, Masau/12:59 5000, and Sahlman/1:44 800 & 3:52/mile & 7:36/3000.
Fans got their money's worth tonight. 800s & more tomorrow.

Nah. Musau has been injured and isn't back to his former level yet. Sahlman is better at shorter distances.
Jane had the performance of the night hands down.

In heat 2 of the 5000m, Evan Noonan 13:43 continues to show nice progress after a 3:59/7:57 indoor campaign.
If he can give 3:40 a scare before the spring is done, that will be a very nice freshman track season, after a sort of so so XC season.

Whereas Chelulei & Hedengren performed as expected imo, Kosgei's 30:49 surprised me somewhat. I suspected she might overcook while getting into it w/ JH and didn't think she had quite recovered the 14:52 form she showed a year ago. Lovell's 15:15 win was an absolute shocker, for me more so than Birnbaum, as he has been trending positively and racing with confidence the past 8-10 wks.

Lovell ran an 8:52 indoors (unattached) so that 15:15 was not totally unexpected.
