Nobody should be surprised by this result at all. Short build-up. I don’t think double threshold lends itself quite as well to half marathon and above. Even Almgren will do several weeks of stuff like 3-5 x 5k to prep for a half. Doing 4 x 2 miles a couple of times isn’t gunna cut it.
Nor 12x1000 meter threshold sessions, which Mike/coach stated in yesterday's podcast was Grant's main workout since he started training for this race right after Millrose.
ya, i don't know about the prep, but mo farah was 7 weeks between a 3:28 1500 and 59:22 half. pre super shoes era 2015. there was also probably a strong taper in there for worlds, which took up the pretty much the last 2 weeks before the half. so he was tuned up for what that would entail.
He also ran a 59:32 half in the spring, almost exactly 4 weeks after an 8:03 indoor 2 mile. not at boston. pre super shoes.
What does Grant do now? He’s regressed on the track. Got smoked by a bunch of average runners in the half. Seems like he’s missed his chance to do anything meaningful. Maybe he should go back to having a full time coach and stop thinking he’s smart enough to be sort of coach himself
He has a coach. A coach who thinks he’s gods gift to running and full of himself.
fisher is a 10k on track guy. Just stick to that….
1:07:12 for Megan Keith. Half debut?
Atleast now we can breathe ...The hitherto Grant Fisher mania on this forum was suffocating....wind your knecks in and let us be objective going forward.
When Almgren/jakob are in peak threshold shape, they dont need more than 3 specific sessions to run well for the half. (They have to do some 3x5km or similar sessions to get used to run hard for a longer duration, since that kind of training isnt part of their standard week).

I wasn't expecting him to challenge AR yet, but that 1:00:53 is disappointing. For someone with Fisher's 10000 m credential that kind of time is just bad.

Somewhat ironic that 2nd and 3rd separated by 1 second train in Colorado Springs and never run together
I was expecting more from Grant but I guess you have to consider he had pneumonia last month.
Initially I thought Grant would have run a bit quicker, but find his sickness and realistically only a 5 week build into this, I just don’t think it was enough. It sort of reminds me of Jakob’s debut half where everyone had a lot confidence in him and it didn’t go quite as well as we thought. Grant looked pretty crushed after the race to be honest, I wonder if he will feel motivated to figure out the roads or stay on the track a bit longer.

Adriaan Wildschutt is now pushing and the only one semi-responding is Zouhair Talbi at the moment
Talbi is pretty awesome. He was in the lobby last night at 10pm, I thought Asics just brought him here as an ambassador since it was so late, said hi to my kid. He must have gone to bed 11pm, woke up and I was blown away to see him pushing the pace!
Like Barega and Cheptegai, Fisher is best suited for the 10000 on the track.
The marathon isn't for everyone.
Fisher's best chance of making the US team in 2027 and 2028 is in the 10000.

What? They train together and are both coached by scott Simmons. And apparently sponsored by ASICS

I was admittedly hoping for faster from Grant but it’s also his first half — the way he runs, I’m sure if he really committed to halfs (and marathons…) he could crush a 58:xx within a year or two. Dude just needs to find his stride on the roads
