Wes Porter showed he'll be our next sub-3:50 guy. Impressive. You can often tell soon after they go pro if they're going to compete for titles. Sahlman ran a half second pr in 3:52.30. 3:33.96 converts to a better time, from 2024. Usually, guys are in better distance than speed shape at this time of year, but not him just now. Nice to see that NAU's Clay Shively, a high school 4:00 miler who had run 4:00 in college as well, broke through, big time too, almost four seconds to run 3:56.96. Allon Clay, a Japanese runner for Penn State, formerly of Texas A and M, who had run 3:44 in 2019, ran another new PSU 1k record in 2:17.3. He's still about half a second off of Tinoda Matsatsa's NCAA record but he has improved a lot this year. A guy who'd run slightly under 1:47 last June in the 800m, he ran 1:45.17 in January, and 2:18 1k. Now he's only a second behind Hocker at 1k. He looked extremely smooth doing it. He looks like he'd make a really good miler but hasn't run good 1500s in college.
