Odira and Hunter-Bell ran more even splits: 56.27/1:54.62 (58.35) +2.08 and 56.08/1:54.90 (58.82) +2.74. It was law of diminishing returns for everyone else who went out too hard including Hodgkinson 55.85/1:54.91 (59.06) +3.21. It may have also been difference between first and second. For Odira it was the best paced effort. Keely likely wanted to control at the front and not let Moraa get away but it made a difference over the final meters. These are 400m splits:
1 Mary MORAA KEN 55.67 2 Keely HODGKINSON GBR 55.85 +0.18 3 Audrey WERRO SUI 55.86 +0.19 4 Sage HURTA-KLECKER USA 56.06 +0.39 5 Georgia HUNTER BELL GBR 56.08 +0.41 6 Lilian ODIRA KEN 56.27 +0.60 7 Sarah MORAA KEN 56.48 +0.81
good analysis, 0.4s is a lot at there level. Not sure if Keely would've gotten Odira, but certainly Bell, had she gone at around 56.1.

This is what I was looking for thank you. You can completely see the mistake Keely made. And then with the lack of speed work training in her legs she lost it in the last 20m or so. See Werro got sucked in to that pace too and paid for it.
Running a more even paced race and holding back really worked for Odira and GHB.
Was watching RoJo and Gault's recap show. I can understand their dsapointment at their favourite Hodgkinson losing again. But had to log off after they started talking about how Lilian needs to explain her absence from the sport whining about Kenyan doping when simple journalistic research would've revealed she became a mother of two.
RoJo can barely conceal his contempt for Mary Moraa who he depicts as a spoiler, so that made Lilian Odira's win extra sweet for me. Also, calling Kenyans "suspicious" when we now know US authorities hide their violations is rich!
I think I'm due another hiatus.
Kenyans are suspicious because of the literal hundreds of doping positives, and that's even with a non-compliant anti doping agency.
Imagine how many there would be if they tested properly?

Love your tears. So many black and brown people beating your favorites. Love it!
So, Sage goes from never being good enough toake a team to #3 all time and no one on this crazy board is saying drugs? Yet the Kenyan as to be on them?

The Kenyan women need to be scrutinized as closely as they’ve started scrutinizong the men. Non Africans who improve less than Odira this year for instance have been assailed with accusations while she gets a pass, like most Africans. Hell, the only male Kenyan to catch any suspicion was Phanuel Koech, simply because his improvement was as ridiculous as his claim of being 18 years old. Meanwhile Cooper Lutkenhaus, McPhillips, even Burgin get assailed. How about those suddenly, massiively improved Jamaican 800 runners? Nothing suspicious apparently.

I disagree with your assessment of what happened.
I pointed out that GHB also had a long break from the sport after being a teen phenom. I just said I wanted to know what happened for like the 5 years when she didn’t break 2:10 and assumed she had a kid.
As for Moraa, I can’t stand the way she races or comprehend it. It’s the worse consistent tactics I’ve ever seen. I don’t know how a coach, agent or sponsor doens’t explain 6th grade tactics to here. Like it’s really absolutely unbelievable to me.
I’m honestly not that suspicious of Odira. If Sage can run 1:55, then I’d expect a former teen phenom from Kenya to run at least 1:54.
Did you all see from how far back Sarah Moraa came to snatch fourth from Hurta-Klecker?
Do we know if Sarah is Mary’s sister or not? I was told all week they weren’t related and the in-stadium PA announcer said they were sisters yet again.

From 2019 through the start of the WC, Hurta ran a total of 55 800m races. She had 25 sub-2:00s, 12 sub 1:59s, and only 2 sub-1:58s (1:57.85 in 2022, 1:57.53 in 2024). Then she popped off 1:57.62 and 1:55.89 (#3 US all-time) in a span of three days.
By contrast, the only other Americans to ever go sub-1:56 are Mu and Ajee' Wilson. Mu ran 9 sub-1:58s and 6 sub-1:57s; Wilson ran 16 sub-1:58s and 4 sub-1:57s.
Jearl Miles Clark ran 9 sub-1:58s and never broke 1:56.40; Alysia Montano ran 7 sub-1:58s with a best of only 1:57.34.
If Addy Wiley would have dropped her PR from 1:56.83 to 1:55.89, some people here would be screaming about her "huge" 0.94s drop (17 WA points); Hurta dropped 1.64s (30 WA points) and hardly a word. This was a massive time drop.
Only nine American women have ever scored 1237 points outdoors: Mu 800, Wilson 800, Houlihan 1500, Hiltz 1500, St. Pierre 1500, Mackay 1500, Monson 5000, Monson 10000, Coburn Steeple, and Frerichs Steeple.
I'll also take contrarian view of Hurta-Klecker. She should consider moving down rather than up to 1500 and combine her season with 400's. She's not elite like Mu but can still get in competitive races at her level to work on speed development. She struggles to get off the line in these really fast 800's leaving too much work to get in good position on first lap and needing to maneuver alot later wasting energy.
She ran on the outside of lane one most of the way and went way wide between 400m-600m. She already has alot of natural endurance and needs to lean into more speed. She's very close to a medal. Imagine if she was able to run the rail mid-pack like Hunter-Bell and only need to make one big move. Her tactics are often criticized but the root of the problem is getting off the line and in good position early.

You can’t comprehend Moraa’s tactics. Maybe she’s simply not too bright. Hell, it took a major DQ to get Hocker ro change it up a bit. 😂
That said, Odira is suspicious. As are all the Kenyans because we’re at 400 + suspensions and their testimg jas been proven to be a thousand times worse/lax than the supposedly lax testing any US or Jamaican sprinter deals with.
