A sub 2:01 would be beyond amazing.
Well, a 2:01:08 too.

1:40:50 for Sawe at 35 km (vs 1:40:10 for Kipchoge in 2022). It's still possible to run under 2:02.

Are they not showing the women's race? No one has posted about it.
A lead pack of 3 women including Rosemary Wanjiru has hit halfway in 69:07.
Leaderboard is here:
Last shown on screen, Wanjiru was looking strong, tucked in with a group of six men (one official pacer).

It was not the strategy of Kiptum who had always a faster second half with a terrible acceleration after the 30k. Sawe is very, very strong and could beat the WR in the future I believe but I agree that Kiptum was a different beast. I've never seen a guy run a marathon like him.
Since Kiptum I started to doubt the "you get better in the Marathon with age" (to an extent, of course).
In fact, physiologically speaking, there's nothing backing it up.
It's at least very plausible that Kipchoge's peak was Monza or same year (2017) Berlin, running under heavy rain.

2:02:27 his own world lead another target here as a 2:01 seems to slip away a bit
Olympic 6th placer Akira Akasaki seems to be moving well up to 5th, podium might even be a possibility for him
Sawe is struggling now. Sub 2:02 will be difficult.
Hutchings is just reading out loud a recent runners world article for some his sawe commentary
Picking 2:03:23 for Sawe.

*2:02:23
1:55:50 for Sawe at 40k. It will be another time between 2:02 and 2:02:30 for him. Very impressive in those conditions (very long time alone, not a good weather).

He's up to 2nd now but about 4min adrift. Impressive still

The weather looked too sunny and maybe a little hot too.
