Too many fast guys now. If Jakob doesn't lead all the way, he will get outsprinted at the finish and lose.
If Jakob does lead all the way, people will draft behind him and he will get outsprinted and lose.
That said, we don't really know how good Jakob could be if he just focused on the 1500. In the 2024 Olympics he competed in the 5K also, which has to take something out of his legs and his focus.
He trains for endurance which is why he can handle competing at multiple distances. And I understand that. But what if he only ran the 1500? I mean, that's not going to happen, but I'm guessing he would do better in the 1500 if he just ran in the 1500 and skipped the longer races.
Yes. Then people hopped off the sauce, sub 3:30 became a rarity, and no one broke 3:47 for like two decades.
Do you the town/region from which came El Guerrouj? We call them "the silent deadly sea of Morocco".
A forgotten "Historic" town (for the simple fact it received someone called Nelson Mandela (Mars 1961) and a group of other African revolutionaries.
The soccer club of this "forgotten" town (of the "undesirable" Morocco) has gotten this year their third African Championship title, plus another African Supercup. They closed the championship title this year, three months before the end of the season. Their president Faouzi Lakjaa was elected in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) by 49 out of 52 this year. Making him a myth for the future African sport.
So if you ever talk to a Berkani forget mentioning sauces because they dont like it.

The 5000m is after the 1500m so it has zero impact on how well he runs the 1500m. The 5000m is almost a free Gold for him and it would be dumb not to run it.
I predicted that he would not win the Olympic 1500 (and that he easily could get passed by a few runners down the stretch).
I am comfortable predicting that he will not win an Olympic or Worlds (outdoor) 1500 ever again.
(But I could be wrong!)
Thanks for the down votes, but if we are going to have prediction threads, shouldn't we be able to say, "Yeah, I called that," when the favorite gets toasted and we actually called it?

No, I don't agree that running the 5000m "has zero impact on how well he runs the 1500m." His training is impacted and his focus is impacted by running two different races. Surely you understand this: it's inevitable.
I agree with you that he had less competition in the 5000m.

Normally the 1500m is finished before the 5000m heat starts so the 5000m doesn´t influence the 1500m performance.
They all ran 3:26-27, and were Olympic and WC medallists. So, yes.
You said they showed you needed to run 3:26-3:27 to be a contender. What was Nick Willis' PB? Rui Silva's? Baala's? Makhlouffi's? Centro's? So, no.
I wasn't talking about the period that followed El G and co. The point I was making is that a quarter of a century ago the best 1500 runners were faster than they are today. Ingebrigtsen hasn't taken the race to unprecedented heights, as was claimed.
Wrong. I am not a fan of Jakob's but I am not constantly belittling his achievements. You do that every single day, multiple times a day.
Because his achievements are constantly being inflated or misrepresented here. He also contributes to it by talking himself up.
His achievements are not inflated at all.
His current all-time positions are
1500m: 4
1 Mile: 3
2000m: 1
3000m: 1
2 Miles: 1
5000m: 26 (his highest was 12)
He has won
4 global outdoor Golds
2 global indoor Golds
3 global Silvers (indoors + outdoors)
an enormous amount of European titles
He was clearly the most successful distance runner outside of the Championships of the last 5 years.
Those stats without any doubt make him one of the all-time greats in middle and long distance running - at age 24.
There is only one reason that you feel the need to constantly belittle his achievements - pointing on his relatively slow 800m PB or his unsuccessful HM debut shortly after winning the 1500m DL final - again and again: because you are stupid.
"He was clearly the most successful distance runner outside of the Championships of the last 5 years."
And there we have it. He hasn't won an outdoor global title in his main event since Tokyo 2021. It would be like Elliott or Snell - or Coe - failing to win the championship races at their specialty for nearly 5 years (which was greater than the length of their careers).

2020 "beginning of an end of Jakob in the 1500." 2021 "beginning of an end of Jakob in the 1500." 2022 "beginning of an end of Jakob in the 1500." 2023 "beginning of an end of Jakob in the 1500." 2024 "beginning of an end of Jakob in the 1500." 2025 "beginning of an end of Jakob in the 1500."

funny you used Coe as an example, when he never won an Olympic gold in his "main event" - the 800. His 1:41 is considerably stronger than 3:29, but he just failed to win in his "main event" while dominating his "side event" in the Olympic kinda like Jakob domination of the 5k from 2022 onwards and still counting.
