Daniel Komen ran 7:20 and 13:39, both outdoors. Even with his 12:39 5000m, pretty much everyone agreed his 7:20 was a magical day when he had essentially the best performance of his life. I think it's fair to say 7:22 indoors is better than 7:20 outdoors, so that suggests Fisher should be in shape to run 12:50, perhaps even 12:40, as ridiculous as that sounds. I still think the wisest thing to do would be to run low 12:50 pace through 3k and then squeeze down the trigger from there.

Pretty wild times we're living in.

That's EXACTLY the plan is to have the pacers go as long as they can at 12:50 pace and then once he takes over, Fisher wants to see how much he can increase the pace all the way home. Note: His comments in now 2 interviews
1) anyone wants to run 12:50 I welcome them and I want to see how many guys can run sub 13
2.) I want to run an indoor PR and the AR is in play, I want to see how much I can push myself (low-key WR without being too cocky)
Hocker ran 12:58 last year after running only 8:05 for 2 miles (7:30ish) indoors. I really do wish he was in this race, I actually think he has 12:40s ability right now too.
He has to be doing volume to run the times he's running. He also looks a lot leaner than I remember him when running for BTC.
His coach answered a lot of questions about his training on these forums awhile back. The gist of it, if I remember correctly: lots of threshold work (possibly double T? possibly multiple a week? definitely incorporated into other workouts), lots of short aerobic repeats (no hard miles or anything, seemed to be ~400m repeats at VO2ish), anything faster than VO2 was less than 400m (would guess some 200s, maybe 300s, likely hill repeats), and plenty of volume (potentially less than Bowerman though, where he was doing 120 in Jerry miles, so 140+).
The problem with comparing their 1500 times is Fisher doesn't run the 1500 as often as Hocker. I don't think he would run 3:27 but I think his PR would be faster than 3:33.99 if he focused on the 1500.

There’s no such thing as a 5/10 runner focusing on the 1500m, and Farrah ran pretty fast in his 1500m one-off. His 3:28.8 was just three weeks prior to winning a WC 10000m
Yeah based on last week he seems to be still on the burrito doping protocol still so he can probably run under 12:50. I wonder if any africans that have invaded in the NCAA will beat him still

The question is whether Hocker was in 7:23 shape, or faster, the day of his Olympic win. Hocker didn’t run any fast races before or after the 8:05 and got out kicked at World Indoors.
Some posters have said that he had a great Fall of training which could explain why he is faster this indoors.
