1980s - Nike Waffle Racer, specifically these ones:

I bought mine probably in 1983 just for spikeless racing but wore them around through at least 1989.
Late 1990s - Asics DS-Trainer (Bonus Answer - Around this time, I ran my first marathon in one of the worst shoes ever: the Nike Air Zoom Ultra.)
Early 2000s - Mizuno Maverick
Recently - Puma H Street
Today - Nike Zoom Katana Racer
2110s now, but i ran in mavericks for 2 years which was great until i got above 50 miles a week...then they just fell apart too fast.
Oh, I forgot to mention the Brooks Burn for the early 2000s. Ran my marathon PR in the Racer STs, but I always thought that the Burn were smoother.
I ran in those Waffle IIs as a senior in 1983. I still have them in my closet, with my Tennessee State Cross Country Meet time and place inscribed in the bottom. Great pair of shoes.
Air Edges for track training. Too hard for long road runs, but closest thing to a spike I found.
Elite Classics - Variable width lacing, excellent road feel.
American Eagles
Vainquers

Saucony Grid Swerve
The very first model they made. White orange and light blue...ugly.
Full carbon rubber outsole so stupid soft rubber that wears away in 200 miles. They were very narrow, with a wide toebox. 10.2 oz I believe.
No medial support or extra cushion, lasted forever, i put almost 800 miles on every pair.
I bought out Road Runner sports when they went on the classics page, all 8 pairs of size 11.5.
Saucony Jazz Original - similar to Swerve. Wore this model since 92'. $29.95 at Eastbay. Best cushioning. Currently have John Deere green and yellow, yuk, but love 'em.
Mizuno Waveriders. Even though I have been only running in the recent version, I can easily say they are the best pair of running shoes that I've ever had. Extremely comfortable and lightweight.
Reebok Road Premier Lite 2. I used to get them for $45 but then my dealer stopped getting them and its impossible to get them.
