the voting favors vapid posters who write boring fluff and take no risks by posting TRUE things.
Noone wants to hear the truth. They can't handle the truth, and downvote it. From that list, I can't see anyone whose posts remember as informative, or even interesting. I don't remember a single thing any of them has posted.
It is also blatantly cheated at times by people savvy enough to spoof their identity and vote lots of time.
Good thing you had him "write" for you because the 2 of you are illiterate af!
Surprised it took so long for someone to call this out. Pretty funny.
I think Wejo and Rojo are in a difficult situation in terms of their content, spelling, and pronunciation. They aren't "prepping" for their podcasts or paying anyone to proof-read their posts. They are literally doing this all on their own.
And because their job is to create a ton of content quickly, they are bound to make mistakes.
For most of us, as consumers of polished media with high production values, their typos are like having a stone in our shoe. It might be something small, but it is always noticeable.
That is why I think we have to cut people some slack, especially if they might have had dyslexia or something as kids*. They often switch things around and swap words. The amount of word swapping is noticeable. It is also interesting how they struggle with the names of the athletes.
I think they do a great job if you factor in the amount of content they put out into the running world.
*And yes, twins are more likely to have dyslexia if one twin has it, especially if they are identical twins. Estimates of the concordance rate for dyslexia in identical twins range from 40% to 70%. But I am not diagnosing anyone, I am just saying we could chill out when it comes to typos. :)
I was snubbed, darn you Lets (not) Runners! Good game to all who played!
You can click on a user's name and see how many posts they've made... You are at 14 lifetime posts. That is not going to get bananas on the leader board. Don't give up though!
Over half of the up/down votes are by the same person voting many times. Usually the person creates a thread. Then logs in multiple times to down vote anyone that disagrees with them. I’ve watched a well known poster here do it even to the point of auto removing posts they don’t like.
Thoughts leader often has good posts but up/down isn’t a very reliable metric.

I think you are correct that a psycho could log in and out a few times to mess with the vote count on a given post (or maybe influence a single thread) but you'd have to be insane to keep doing that all day in an effort to get to Though Leader's level of upvotes.
And I can also say with 100% certainty, the kind of posts that Thoughts Leader puts out there aren't vapid or fluff. The best posters are making good faith efforts to engage in conversation like a real, normal person would if we were out on a long run together and just talking.
People like McRunnin, Peach Pit and Thoughts Leader are bound to "seem normal" compared to Khamis or "King Makhloufi is a LION HEARTED CHAMPION" type posters. (Does anyone remember that guy?)

I don’t know if I should feel honored or embarrassed to be in the top 5. This recognition is cause for me to reflect on my life choices.
At the same time, I’m wondering how I lost to rojo, and I’m motivated to beat him for the last podium spot this year. So conflicted…
That is how I feel as well. :)
Remember the olden days when employees of a company weren't allowed to participate in their own contests? That is how I feel knowing that Rojo snagged that last spot on the podium.
Seriously though, I think he adds a ton of content here and his takes are either hot or cold, so that means he gives us plenty to think and talk and write about. I appreciate that (and him).
I don't always agree with Rojo but there are very few people who have done more to give running and track & field a platform in the modern era.
When I was a kid, you had Track and Field News and that was it. And that was a one-way street. But with Letsrun, it is a conversation (albeit an imperfect one). I am thankful and appreciate what Rojo (and Wejo and Gault) have done for our sport.
Turo Towers XC is me, Ruxton Towers XC. The funny thing is, I think "Turo" is the car rental agency that rented the truck and the tesla to those crazy people from those New Years attacks. Wejo must have just mixed that up...
But just to share some numbers, I posted about 1600 times last year. If most of those posts got between 5-10 upvotes, that gets me to about 1/4th of what Thoughts Leader (who had +40,000 upvotes) had last year!
Hats off to Thoughts Leader, by the way! That is some solid work. Thanks for making the board better and always being positive!
Cheers to you, sir. Seriously, there’s a lot of great people here who love this sport. Yeah there’re internet trolls (some quite funny). I think even some of the ones who get after me (one who invokes British legends in particular) are at their heart just big fans of the sport and have some sense of humor about us arguing this stuff on the internet. There isn’t really a better place to have a real convo on elite running than here. Yeah you can try on Reddit, Instagram, comments sections whatever.
Nope. But if someone has some kind of low-level or undiagnosed dyslexia (and constantly swaps words/sounds around), that is not really a good reason to call them idiots. That doesn't seem very kind.
And I am somewhat bored by the people coming on this website everyday to rag on this website. If the people who hate Letsrun so much weren't on this board, it would be a better place for the rest of us.
The BroJos are far from perfect but it is not honest to say "they suck crap" and "they're the worst" and "this site is full of idiots." This website is the best running website we've got, that is just a fact.
The Brojos provide a service to the running community that is free to enjoy, criticize, improve, or ignore. But trolling and being vulgar/mean is not really doing anyone any good.
Would also be interesting to know if upvotes on deleted comments were counted. The mods take repeated umbrage at my accurate predictions. As a reminder - Trump will win, Ukraine will lose, the Covid vax is useless at best.
I'll have to ask Erik the webguy if deleted posts count but I'm assuming they don't.
He blew away the competition in terms of upvotes and downvotes. He was the most upvoted poster and had 10x as many upvotes as downvotes.
This award doesn't have to go to person with the most netupvotes but if we're going off of net upvotes for the year the top 10 were 1) THOUGHTSLEADER 2) Josh Wesley Harding 3) rojo 4) Turo Towers XC 5) McRunnin 6) MattHatter 7) high school xc coach 8) Peach Pit 9) Salvitore Stitchmo 10) Kobbs Hessler
He posts generally very thoughtful posts on the forum, isn't afraid to start threads and is a great contributor to the LRC community. We've liked his stuff for a while and had him freelance right for us as well.
