Iowa 2025 Track & Field Thread

Hope everyone had a chance to get a run in this beautiful weather. It smells like track season out there today!

Was just looking at the heat sheets. As kids are largely running unattached, it's tough to tell where they're from unless you recognize the name.

Girls' Mile we have Dunham (heat 2), Gall (heat 3), Boleyn (heat 3), and Wedemeyer (elite).

Boys' Mile (elite): Anania, Wolfe

Boys' 2 Mile (elite): Merrick, Anania, Wolfe, Flori

Did I miss anyone?

Pretty cool to have 4 Iowa boys in the elite 2 mile. Represent!

Good luck to all the racers. Whatever the outcome, kudos to you for putting in the work and toeing the line. It's fun to have a mid-January event to be excited about in the winter doldrums of Iowa high school running. Go get 'em!

Ford Washburn (City high alum) - 4:04 in the mile at 7000 feet

Seems like he’s having a better college career than Jackson Heidesch

If you are comparing that class, Washburn competed at NCAA XC, Nash has run 1:49, Wilson has run 23:54, and Knepp ran at U20 World Championship. Heidesch ranks about 5th.

Has he run in a college race?

Heidesch doesn’t rank at all, since he hasn’t raced even once.

Knepp ran an 8:05 3k last month, which surprised me. Very close to 8:40 3200 equivalent, so a great improvement on his HS results.

Sam Mora and Elias Arbuckle of DCG are also running the mile. Arbuckle ran 4:15 and 9:16 last year. He was injured during XC and only raced Districts/State/NXR, but still got down to 15:35 at NXR.

Dunham is entered in the 2-mile as well, with a high likelihood of being the top Iowan.

I don’t really pay attention to the boys side, other than a couple of kids I know personally, so I appreciate the help.

They all have lifetime bests. Heidesch is behind those guys and they are the same age.

Actually 1:50.38 - 3:59.08 - 8:42.60y is still the nicest set of PRs of any of them. He’s had a terrible go of it in college but I get the feeling you’re eager to crap on the guy. I wish him success.

Cedar Falls freshman Charlee Gall won her section of the mile in 4:58.1, a 4:36 1500 equivalent. Her 8th grade brother Jeremy ran 4:55.0 a couple hours ago, and their dad Scott ran 4:54.3 in the community mile yesterday.

Their mom was (still is?) the Cedar Falls school record holder in the 3,000 for many years.

And Wedemeyer with new pr of 4:59! And Wolfe with a 4:14

Wolfe was the top Iowan in the mile. He just became the favorite at Drake.

Her PR is 4:54.

For a full mile? Indoor?
