And whether we like it or not, there are end of year rankings, common at the HS and pro level. I do tend to think that the championship results speak for themselves, but when an organization (T&F News, Milesplit, etc.) chooses to compile EOY rankings, I understand considering the season of work.
I really don't care about EOY HS XC rankings, but simply agreed with the previous poster who pointed out that Ritzenhein's season was more impressive than Edwards as a collective whole.
Jakob was ranked #1 in the 1500, but didn't even earn an Olympic medal.
No one is expecting everyone to agree on ranking order, but it's absolutely a part of our sport.
Coach Kunz has been the co head coach with Dalby for years. When Dalby quit track, which was mid XC season. She took both head coaching positions. IF, and there is an IF, Dalby doesn't return for XC, they will post and hire a new head coach. Everyone besides Coach Kunz are assistant coaches. Head coaches choose their assistants.
Her only poor races have been at national meets and she has the Woodward Park record, which is like Detweiler, Holmdel, Bowdoin etc for California. Same course as German Fernandez holds legendary boys record. For Sadie she's ahead of Lane, Baxter, Stamps, Trotter, Hasay, Bei etc, who all won national titles.
She also is rare 4 time All-American in xc.
2021 Foot Locker 15th
2022 Foot Locker 10th
2023 NXN 26th
2024 NXN 11th
and she qualified for NXN all 4 years, just choosing FL first two seasons.
They are giving Sadie credit for the CA season. Woodbridge, record at Clovis-Woodward Park, 3rd State title.
Macchia like Leachman was just getting into form, and found enough for a good finish there at FL. She gets credit for that, plus I'm guessing her USA U20 running helps too.
Why did they penalize Rylee Blade so much then? Beat Sadie head to head multiple times and set the high school national record for 3 miles with a 15:20 at Woodbridge? Doesn't make sense.
Really? When? I thought she only beat her at Woodbridge this year.
Who wants to coach at Vista? I don't think that a new coach can do what Dalby did. I think Copelend would be the ideal person, but he is now invested in Chapparal. Is there any coach out there that thinks they can do something with this program? They are losing 5 seniors. So that coach would have a lot of work to do.

No wonder why Chapparal is doing so well
One thing that might hurt them is they’re losing their best runner
Vista has Coach Rouse taking over in the spring. That’s a great choice! Alumni and has been on the coaching staff for several years. He will keep things rolling at MVHS this spring.
