Based on the current roster on Milesplit, they have only one incoming freshman boy who went under 6 minutes in the 1600 (of the 1600 times that I can find). They have 8 freshman boys listed on there (some of them have no 1600 times of track times at all listed on milesplit). The milesplit roster doesn’t include Maybury so this roster likely not up to date yet. And of course, people can develop over time
In all reality, Rocky is now one of four Idaho teams that looks like they are doing a good job of developing talent and depth instead of just one. Previously, they had to contend with just Crater and Jesuit, now Washington is rising again and you get the odd Montana school.
Yes, they may qualify, but they are not consistently the best team in Idaho and barring getting transfers (they got a huge senior transfer this year and a good freshman- recruiting?!) they look like they will struggle to consistently be the best team in their district.
If the Montana school you’re speaking of is Bozeman, they won NXN in 2016. They took 8th there in 2015.

Odd Montana school as in not consistently challenging for a spot. They’ll be relevant this year but it’s not year in and year out like Crater and Jesuit.
People outside the state may not know this but a few years back a second high school (Gallatin) opened in Bozeman and the schools are now split, along with much of the running talent. Bozeman High's enrollment went from around 2,000 down to 1,200. Otherwise Bozeman might have made it back to NXN a few times since their last appearance.

I had no idea, that makes sense. Mt. Spokane opening is what ended the Mead dynasty back in the day.
From what Jack posted on Strava over the winter, I wouldn't be surprised if he either quits the sport next year or transfers, it appears he unfollowed most of the Rocky athletes as well in addition to his mileage being all over the place and now it looks like he isn't running at all, not sure at all what the root cause of this is, could be an injury? I have no idea.

It’s not a normal meet. It’s a relay and those are all split times. Does a 5 x 2 mile relay give you an accurate picture of what a top 5 or 7 lineup looks like based on splits alone? Jens Knutsen was Boise’s 3 last year at this meet and tied the time run by the guy that got 41st at the state meet for example.

The “That didn’t age well” was a reply to a mention that Davis quit the sport (based on having no track results last spring) and it turned out to be 100% wrong

Is this Soren Knutsen's brother, or is Knutsen a popular name in US like Smith or Miller?
Looks like 2026 isn't in the cards as they return boys that finished 32nd, 36th, and 39th at the state meet. Maybe their talented freshman is a low stick for next year but they look like they are going to have some issues. For comparison, they returned the 8th, 17th, and 49th finishers and added in the 37th place finisher as a transfer. Hard to see them competing in a region that is getting deeper when they are seemingly moving backwards.

It will be tough for fall 2028 too. Bailey is a great freshman, but they only have 2 freshmen who broke 19 minutes
Mead was 13th(?) last year and 3rd this year. Relax
They are losing their 1, 2, 3, and 5 from the state meet. Mead was returning their 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10. Rocky would have been 21st in the championship section had there not been some questionable stuff with a senior transfer. They actually may not have been in the championship section at all because they would have been 5th at the Idaho state meet. They don’t have a low stick returning, the talent hasn’t been developing, and I’m sure that they are going to have issues getting more transfers now that they don’t have the same momentum as before.
Non Inland empire times only, Rocky had 10 boys break 17 with 7 returning. They got 2nd in the JV district championship race, scoring 40 points, 23 points up on 3rd. They got 2nd at districts, 10 points up on 3rd. They also had 11 boys break 17 last year, but 12 if you count the transfer. 5 returning off their own roster, 6 including him. They scored 18 points in the JV championship, 77 points up on 3rd. They won the district championship, and were 73 points up on 3rd. They were returning their 2, 3, and 7 from the state meet, plus adding in a guy that beat their 6th and was the 19th returner from the state meet.
This won’t be the same team as years past and they are going to have many of the same issues as this years team, except they don’t have the 2nd returner from the state meet to help. Mead obviously had the pieces. Rocky doesn’t.
All I can really point to are examples from the past.
Kamiakin was 2nd in 2012 at NXR and then 7th at NXN, 2011 they finished 6th at NXR before and 6 of their top 11 guys were seniors, including the NXR champ.
Anything is possible with a passionate coach, kids with experience, and some belief. Not sure why this thread even exists.

1 out of 3…
Rumor mill is saying that at best there will be 2 of the 3 things mentioned. Absolutely seismic shift potentially coming.
