How's University of Michigan's women's distance program?

The closest residence hall is South Quad. That used to be 1/2 mile from the old track. Now its two miles. Thats a big difference. Sure, distance guys might warm up 2 miles, but then running two miles back, after lifting, and not showering. And if you're on the hill dorms or north campus its even further. Its a hassle.

Yes. That is how costs work. When a kid gets a full athletic scholarship at Michigan as an out of state, they get the full $84K covered.

The track is not inconvenient to get to. Everybody drives to the facility, where there is plenty of parking. If you don't have a car, there is the bus route which loops right to the facility (free to students). The reason VNTC uses the old track is because they don't have facility access during team practice windows. That and they allow community members to come run with them and it's an easier meeting place. They aren't using the older track because its inconvenient to get to the new track.

I have zero doubt that a team with multiple alumni olympians would not be able to run at the new track. But you are right. I have spoken to them and I think in large part its home base for 40 + yrs and, interestingly an unnamed coach has told me he likes the old track in part because they know how far everything is from there. ie, if you are running a michigan, you go off track for a 1k or whatever they already have that drilled down! All the road courses are measured from there. Interesting. The only thing that's weird is they are willing to deal with walkers and slow runners while destroying some 400s rather than go to the empty new track. Literally......potholes. Almost no lines visible, and moped/scooter crossing on turn 1! (yes they actually put moped parking on old high jump end)

I think this shows how different training is now. 10 years ago Michigan was the bees knees, now they are not good at all. Same Coach same training, different NCAA.

Take some ownership in your involvement. You cannot just blame everyone else for your problems when you won't address them. Stop living in the past.

maybe? But what's the title of this thread? There is clearly an issue so certainly plausible. I have heard directly from recruits parents that there is an issue there. I have been reluctant to dig deeper but something is up. Mich is top 2 or 3 athletic school, campus. Top 20 school. Homegrown talent winning HS nationals all over the place. If the football team can recruit without academics being an issue why cant XC or Track?

Talk to any recent alumni and you’ll hear the same things being said here. They have no shot of making NCAAs this year. This will be multiple years in a row of not advancing past regionals despite being in a state with some of the best hs girls in the country. Hell across the street from the big house is a top 5 team in the country right now who would most likely beat the wolverines in a head to head

And that school has produced TWO individual that won nattys and top 3 in the last few years and they have gone elsewhere. But I suppose we have beaten that to death. That school is gonna have a 3rd individual natty in the next 1 or 2 yrs, we shall see where she goes. 2 national champs, one top 3, one HS in what 6 years?
