Typical Rojo bringing up Jakob, let’s give Josh Kerr props for an awesome race and world record run with credit to Grant Fisher as well. Also, Jakob ran 7:54 which is faster than 8:00
Yes. Along with his credit to Grant he also said that 7:54 was a whole other level - a nod to Jakob.
So he was quite gracious today in victory and props to him for his own achievement.
And then he got beat by a Kerr with a 7:33 PB. 8:00 is worth ~ 7:25?
Jakob is probably not worried about Kerr running 8:00 indoor. But he should be. The guy with the kick (who stomped on you in the final 200m last year) just demonstrated that he's now improving his cardiovascular engine.
I love this rivalry. I'd love to see Jakob learn from his three straight WC 1,500m losses, redeem himself and regain the title of 'best 1500m runner in the world.' But that title I think right now goes to the defending world champion who just nearly broke 8:00 in the 2 mile.
Go ahead and down-vote me, but you know this to be true.
Runner A won the World Champs in November. Runner B faded to second. Runner B is currently dealing with / coming back from an achillies injury. Runner A just broke the 2mi indoor WR. Which runner has the momentum leading into the Paris Olympics this summer?
I just looked his video ... he don't have at all the shape of distance runners (even the 3000m) but I do think he is doing a lot of effort in strategic trainings to break this rule.
8:00 indoors in February is incredible for a guy like Kerr, that puts him in elite 5k ability company. Yes, Jakob ran 7:54 but that's outdoors and in the middle of summer. The gap between them is much smaller than people here are giving credit for. For a guy who already has a bigger kick than Jakob, that is hugeeee. It really puts the pressure on Jakobs tactic of wanting to take it up at 700 out(even when healthy). You now have another guy with World class over distance chops and a better kick. No doubt this will have an effect on his 1500 time too. What happens if Kerr becomes a 3:27 guy with this extra endurance? It makes it almost impossible for Jakob to win in anyway(even if Kerr is still technically slower than him)
I'm actually even get more hyped for this Olympic showdown, which I didn't think was possible, this has potential to be an all-timer race.
Kerr's 8:00.67 is worth 1310 IAAF points which is higher than any other indoor distance record from the 1500- 5000
Not sure the points system but with the 1.08 conversion it is = to 7:25.06 so Girma’s 7:23.81 is superior by that metric. Either way, both strong marks indoors or out.

it does not put him in elite 5k ability company. 8 minutes vs 13 is a completely different animal. just ask yared nuguse.
all this soft "world record" hype just cheapens a good performance. 8 flat is very good, but can you now go run a 7:23 indoor 3000?
the real equivalent, about 7:27 or 7:28, is good enough to brag about. Embellishing it makes it look cheap.
You won't like this! But if you had a 3:55 mile PR, would you go around telling people it was worth 3:53 somehow? Well, maybe you would. But an 8 flat 2 mile is what it is, and no more.

Anyone with 1:45/3:29/8:00i has at least low 12:5x outdoor endurance. I'm sorry but Yared ran 13:02i indoors just over two weeks ago and has shown nothing close to 8 flat 2 mile endurance, that is a level above his 7:28
you can REALLY See how kerr can open his stride and kick the last 200 whereas the american can not change his stride whatsoever. the american kid in second has zero kick, it was amzing to see how easily kerr pulled away from him all while the american kept his small 'tempo' stride, the same stride he used on laps 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 ......disappointing.

The difference between 7:28 and 8:00 is not that great, and the fact that Yared was in the front for the last 1150 meters makes them at least equal as far as im concerned.

Fisher is training for 10000 right now. he will have better turnover when he needs it. He also did all the work for that race.

What is Fisher’s fastest last 400m at any distance 3000m+?
I hope Kerr watch Nuguse. If Nuguse had any help in front he would have run sub 3:47. Now that Nuguse knows he’s close to Jakob, Nuguse expects to run at that level. How close would Kerr be to 3:43 mile?
