Muir and Reekie have falling out with Andy Young, get on first plane home from South Africa

Sight must not be lost of the phenomenal success that Andy has brought to athletics, especially with Laura Muir.

Surprised they put up with him for as long as they did. Being treated like children when they were the one's employing him.

True but one thing a great coach needs is a great athlete and he has run down Reekie so much that the athlete who at one time looked like she had more talent at least over 800m than Muir now looks constantly tired. He had glandular fever few years ago which can be exasperated by stress and has never quite recovered. Maybe its nothing to do with him but this controlling I am always right approach and what looks like Salazar trpe weight control - you have already eaten out twice this wk for a coffee. A lot of athletes are quite meek and mild on the surface and allow someone like Young to dominate them but as the saying goes the worm has term and Muir certainly is like steel inside. It is always the athlete who has the drive and the coaches job is usually to temper that not whip them along like a horse (which seldom works even for a horse) All guesswork at all like everyone else here but 2 walking out like that tells it all. Is who they are going to any better though?

There's nothing to figure out when Laura looks at her trophy cabinet. There has to be a regime and in this case that regime (if that is the right word) has brought huge success. There's no "guise" here, the results speak for themselves. Obviously I don't know the full story but I do know the results and the records.

There is nothing to be confused about. By all means a person can go to a coffee shop whenever they want and don't let anyone tell them differently, but they're not going to become a world class athlete, smashing records everywhere.

I just hope this whole saga blows over and Laura reaches her peak and continues to astound, and Gemma gets further success much of which has been taken from her due to illness.

"UK Athletics (UKA) can confirm Laura Muir and Jemma Reekie have made the decision to part ways with their coach Andy Young.
Both athletes would like to thank Andy for his commitment and support over the years.
They are now focussed on making decisions around their support network and coaching set-up for the future and will not be making any further comment.
UKA staff are continuing to support the athletes during this time."

John Biggs group looks a good option for them if they want to stay in the UK

As much as I'd like more details about what's been going on, Laura is too classy mud sling, so I guess this is all we'll hear from her. Maybe at some point someone can get a bit more info from her at an after-race interview or something, but it's her style to be really discreet about things. One of the reasons we all love her!

Am I misunderstanding what a coffee shop is about? It might sell sugary drinks, cakes, pies and stuff but de rigeur I'd say it purveyed coffee. If entry into and product consumption in a coffee shop is a barrier 'to become a world class athlete' and 'smashing records' a load of athletes really need to buck up their lifestyle choices.

The car detail combined with the earlier vague statement about their concern for his "health" = he was drunk, they didn't want to get in the car with him, he told them the rental was in his name and they couldn't drive, they walked and during that time agreed it was the last straw.

Except it says they mentioned he didn't even use the car while they were gone. Why would they be mad he didn't drive drunk.

I too first thought it involved drinking. Now I'm thinking him talking about them being worried about his health meant his mental health. Like basically they said "you're a controlling a**hole. You need help"

I'm assuming you are male. Watch movies like "she said". Its hard for us males to understand that 8 to 12 women had been harassed or sexually assaulted by Weinstein and yet they were all scared to come forward. They didn't think they'd be believed or never work again etc. This included some of the most powerful woman in Hollywood. Even powerful women combined who were in the right thought one man committing crimes had more power.

As for not becoming world class if you go to a coffee shop when you want. I'd bet Bolt went to a coffee shop whenever he wanted.

As someone alluded too earlier, Andy Young has quite a bad underlying reputation around Scotland across the competitive amateur running scene. Most of that revolves are him generally not being a nice person at all
