Let's put it this way: No I didn't 't run a sub 3 marathon, but my times pointed to a time much faster.
A 26:21 8K (roughly 5 miles) 17 years ago is impressive (to me, anyway), even should the course be accurate.
Yes, that would translate to WAY below sub 3 if you put the miles in.
But forget the Marathon.... with the fitness that result shows, where are the similar 5K, 10K, Half results? One and done?
As others note... it's not just the time... a Sub 3 at 30 isn't nearly so impressive as a Sub 3 at 50...
At one Marathon, i got smoked by a guy who put up a 2:47... not big deal... until you consider he was 64 at the time
