Centrowitz couldn't hold the 2:51 he split at 1200m. Hocker closed in 2:51.5 with a 39 final 300m. Times aside, there's every probability Hocker would maximized this opportunity to try qualifying for the final and landed a Q or q into Saturday.

I was referring to Tim, not hocker.
Regarding Hocker, he has done well to make the finals at age 20. But if he didn't medal, he will get slaughtered by people here which is kinda sad. Especially after the comments here after Coburn's bad race.

Good for Hocker, but his advance can just as easily be as a fluke of the qualifying system as a sign that he's a legit medal contender.

A medal from Hocker is a big ask unless 4-5 guys try to compete for gold and solver and and 2-3 die hard and he can pick them off late. I don't see him handling staying with a very fast pace.
People forgetting this is a qualifying round. Wightman doesn’t get a better lane or any advantage for winning the Semi. It looked to me like a confident group of athletes purely ran to qualify like Jakob, Hocker and Tim. A few pushed a bit harder to win in Wightman and Kipsang. A few pushed harder to qualify in McSweyn, Hoare and Kerr. And then you had the flat-out guys like Mechaal, Hayward and Grethen.
I’d rule out the the flat-out guys and the advanced Pole for medals, but everyone else is in it

Agreed but will not stop the incels here to bash him if he fails to medal.
His olympics is already a success and you guys shouln't forget that. If he ends up in the back half of the final, it will still be a good Oly for him. The gold will be sub 3:30 and Hocker isn't there.
we should spread the idea of him shaving his hair off which would strongly increase his chances to medal and come back home looking sexy with a medal and the new look!
i mean the his hair def weighs at least a pound and the the aerodynamics plays also a role

Not necessarily. Hocker doesn't get much recognition for that 2:49.89 indoors in January as a 3:58 miler an unofficial 7:45 runner at 3K (Oregon time trial late autumn '20).
He's since improved to 1:46-13:18.
He had a month of rest and has now dropped consecutive qualifying spots to make it Saturday.
Whatever his dream is, he's on cue. If he wasn't ready to race the big fellas in the Olympic Final, he wouldn't have taken the trip across the ocean to Tokyo. He'd have savoured being US champion.

No. Show me where I said that. Obviously he's better than a 3:35 in a tactical race. I'm pretty sure I said he's probably 3:32-33 (based on his mile). High 3:31 maybe in a DL race.
If it's a slow final he has a medal shot (slower than 3:35). Other than that there are simply too many faster guys running the race and my guess is Tim wants the OR and will run it down with Ingebrigtsen in tow and I think Kipsang will be with them. Then it's a fight between the British, Aussies, and Hocker. I think Kipsang is the sleeper...if a Kenyan 1500m Runner can ever be a sleeper lol.
I'm going to go with Kipsang for the win!
