I’m just saying modern-day tribes in Utah such as Ute, Goshute, Paiute, Navajo (Dine), and Shoshone might be concerned that equal opportunity hiring practices weren’t adhered to in the hiring process.
odd how some people were surprised she turned down the Stanford job. In my mind it would have been a lateral move, in many ways a tiny step back.
BYU is a much better program, literally half the roster are from a 50 mile radius of campus, so clearly running is coveted at the high school level in Utah making it much more easy to recruit. and that's not to imply she can't recruit because she's getting Jenna Hutchins, maybe the top female high school runner this year.
plus she coaches pro runners and many of them prefer the altitude and lower cost of living in Utah, making it easier for her.
also, she seems super happy there and at the end of the day that's what it's all about.
I’ve coached at least 10 families of LDS kids and the dream of every kid was BYU. Most weren’t fast enough to run there but almost everyone of them ended up there for school. A cpl ended up at byu Hawaii too.

This^, Taylor has by far the deepest pile of talented walk-ons of any NCAA college. There is a vast pool of good LDS runners across Utah and southwest for whom BYU is their dream school. At $30k total annual cost, LDS parents are happy to even pay full freight. If Taylor can recruit a few non Mormons from around the country for altitude, coaching, competitive teammates, title chances, Christian environment, mountains/terrain that only strengthens the team. It's this steady guaranteed inflow of talent, plus altitude that makes it a great place to coach.
1. Family and church pressures. You wouldn't dare disappoint your kin and The Almighty over some personality issues or disrespecting a proper authority figure!
2. BYU is a sweet deal financially plus it offers high status and networking opportunities for LDS members (Just like Notre Dame for Catholics).
3. Most women at BYU are there to get the coveted MRS. degree above all things and Provo offers the largest pool of eligible LDS bachelors. Finding a mate from a good family with connections is a huge deal for these girls and their respective families. When you think about it, BYU is just a huge Greek Row for Mormon kids minus the alcohol fueled party scene.
can you give one specific example of the toxic environment and 'mean girl culture' during Coach Taylor's tenure? just one. and while we're at it, Ed Eyestone's tenure too. Because nobody would post such a damning claim without doing a deep dive into the team including talking to current and former players. go ahead, tell us.
You’re absolutely full of it. You’re stuck in the 60s if you think this is what goes on today.
Look at what her athletes say about Taylor year after year. They would run through walls for her, notwithstanding what some rando internet axe-grinder may say.

Well as an athlete at BYU, I can tell you first hand. Since February, 4 women have quit because the environment is mentally abusive. Unless you're at the school, in the program, you wouldn't have a darn clue. It's not some "damning claim", it's a reality check for folks who thinks the program is some pristine thing to be in awe of.

In one of the most recent interactions, an athlete informed Taylor that she would be leaving the team to which the first response was, "That's ok, I was going to cut you anyway"
Funny how people love to tear into some people. I can't stand her personality, but the lady can coach, and it seems like the athletes have bought in and flourish under her. If it works for them, thats all that matters.

If it was Bowerman saying this to a uncommitted lazy never-scoring junior at Oregon, we would all cheer: "hes teaching men to be men!"
Why does she have to coddle college kids? College is a time of personal growth; it's the coaches job to help the kids figure out if they want to run seriously or not.
