Ahh this post is spot on. I miss my 2005 beamer, and remember taking it to bestbuy to install a simple iPod dongle.
Having said that, I do like heads up map display on my dash. The touch screen is terrible though. Keep it simple!

If you want something with zero maintenance and incredible fuel economy, then you want an electric vehicle.
You won’t need oil changes, tune ups, coolant flushes, transmission serving, air filters, etc.
And you don’t need fuel.
In Canadian Dollars:
Honda Civic: $25K
Tesla Model 3: $53K
I would happily buy an electric car if the price was lower, and if my condo building had 240V chargers in the lot. You only get 1 mile per hour of charging at 120V, which is not enough for my commute.
It's also a myth that electric cars need no maintenance. They need less, but not zero. And then eventually you need to replace the batteries. The advertised range of an electric car is what it will get when brand new, and then it continuously degrades over time. Not a big deal if you only use it for your daily commute, but if you ever want to go on a road trip, forget about it. This is why, as Jamin points out, it is usually someone's 2nd or 3rd car. They just aren't practical as an all-arounder.
You are right that we need EV's that cost 25K. Tesla has announced that they are working on it, but we don't know when it will happen. If Biden has his way, the tax credit for EV's will jump to $12,500 for US buyers, which should bring the prices down to 25K USD.
A 120V outlet generally gives you about 4 miles of range, not 1. But yeah, more apartments and condos need 240V chargers. That will happen very soon as EV's get more popular.
EV batteries do not continuously degrade, at least not linearly. They typically degrade 5%-10% in the first 2-3 years and then degradation slows to a crawl. The good news is that EV batteries typically last over 300,000 miles. So the typical EV should have a longer life than a typical gas car.
I have two EV's. I never buy gas any more and I've done many, many EV road trips since 2017. My old EV took longer to make the trips, but in my new Tesla, it charges so fast I don't even have time to sit for a meal.
Is there a tech feature that will detect if a car is coming down the aisle as I try to back up my Honda Civic that is parked between two monster SUVs?
THAT is what I would like.
Not just the backup camera that literally looks almost directly behind me... I can turn around and see that myself. I need something to tell me about the car that is zooming down the aisle and I can't see s**t because of the two SUVs parked next to me and I've got to back up with the "wing and a prayer" philosophy.

I have the same issue with getting on to the street from my garage. It's a 1-way street with parking along the sides, 35 mph (= 42 mph+), no traffic light where I get on. The parked cars block any view of what's coming down the road and I have to make a completely blind turn on a hope and a prayer that I don't get T-boned and permanately paralyzed.

Yes. My Chevy Bolt EV has that feature. Works really well.
