Why couldn’t Jerry figure out Kate Grace and the 800?

the move to the 1500m didnt really workout but there was no way to tell if she was going to be a 3:57 or 402 gal til the work was done. And in 2016 it didnt look like a 158 woman had much future in the 800m.

Lol I was about to respect your opinion until you called Jerry lazy... Which is a joke.

He was lazy, instead of developing an individualized training program for her, he just had her run with Gwen and Marielle and Emily as if she was a throwaway. Sure some of the training would overlap, but that's not what was happening, Kate spent way too much time doing things that the 10K runner were doing just because Jerry was focused more on the burrito babes, Shelby, Karissa, Elise and Gabriela. Her Nike contract was not up for renewal, she didn't leave because of a contract issue, she left because of an incompetence and lack of a plan issue.

And BTW, Wartenburg didn't do a terrible job with Kate, she only left because she just came off a finals finish at the Olympics and had an opportunity to sign for far more than what Oiselle was paying her and part of that deal was joining the burrito babes.

He's the best coach in the world who has never heard of Nandrolone (and now that he knows what it is, says it's useless for distance runners).

How soon we forget things like Solinsky's 10k AR, Bairu back to back XC champion, Teg American record 2-mile, etc etc. Yes all great prep runners but they were developed to new levels with Jerry.

True, but they were also destroyed by Schumacher: Solinksy was described as bullet proof, but his career was cut short by injury in the end, nothing good past the age of 26. By age 27 Teg peaked and sputtered a his last few years due to injury . Bairu completely burnt out well before he was 30, pretty much done by age 27. There are others.

Rupp by comparison far outlasted these stars (Rio Oly 10k: 5th place at age 30, 30 secs off HM PB at age 34, Marathon PB ~age 32). Aside from his Hagglunds deformity, his injuries have been few and far between.

I would argue Wartenburg did quite well with her. She won the 2016 Oly Trials 800 and made the Olympic final in Rio. That ain't bad - quite the opposite, actually. I think she was sponsored by Oiselle at the time, so when she left for "greener pastures," it was much more for the Nike $$$ than to move from a coach and setup that wasn't working for her.
