No love for Hocker. Form is crap and never, ever shhhhh the crowd at the finish line. It comes across poorly.

Why some Americans hate this young man? It must have something to do with culture. Germans don't hate Robert Farken. He is at the same level as Hocker. Won the German Championships 3.34. 64. And he ran 1.45.80 at 800. He has a great kick, too.

Maybe because everybody should have stopped disrespecting Centro? The whole thing with that and Hocker is why it's so heated. However if we are being realistic, he may not even make it out of the rounds. Even with Timmy Cher out, the race won't be like Rio and its going to be sub 3:31. Hocker hasn't cracked 3:35 and if someone makes a jump like that in a couple of weeks that's extremely unlikely and how a lot of people on these boards like to put it, suspicious.
Hocker has a great finish, but what's that kick gonna look like in a 3:30 race?
What makes you think this is the year an Olympic record fro 1500m is going to be set?
A brief summary of winning times since 1984 when Coe ran what was an Olympic record:
1984 - 3:32.53
1988 - 3:35.96
1992 - 3:40.12
1996 - 3:35.78
2000 - 3:32.07 (OR)
2004 - 3:34.18
2008 - 3:33.11
2012 - 3:34.08
2016 - 3:50.00
History is filled with athletes who ran great times but couldn't win championship races.
With regard to Hocker, I am more concerned about tactics than times. I think he got lucky in finding an opening in time to chase Centro down. I think he has the physical tools to medal in a typical tactical Olympic final. I hope luck remains on his side.
I doubt he has the ability to beat Jacob Ingebrigtsen in a Monaco type time trial.

Yea thats an annoying but semi acceptable move nowadays if you are like an established GOAT, but him doing it stunk of arrogance. He is in his own stadium, why have everyone shush? Dont you do that move in the enemy stadium when you win? It says a little about him. If Centro did it, we would be all over him.

Obviously he has a chance! He just ran down the reigning Olympic champion from 20 back. Are you really that Clueless? Has the best kick of anyone in the world, at this distance. The race will be slow and tactical and he'll win a medal. and he'll do it again in three years from now and then again and go down as the greatest American middle distance Runner
From 20 back? 20 feet? Why is everybody so terrible at estimating distance on a track with lines everywhere that help gauge the distance?

It didn't hurt my feelings. You're the one that got triggered, little fanboi...
he did it to shush the idiot trolls here on letsrun
sure got you worked up!

Welcome to LetsRun forums. Not how I see it, but either trolls or negative folks with little else to do lurk here. And many great folks and insightful ones, but too many of the former.
There's a difference between talking about Hocker's realistic potential and sounding like you are genuinely hoping that he fails (which is what you and many others sound like.) Realistically, he will probably make the Olympic final and depending on how the race goes he has an outside shot at getting a medal. It's naïve to think he's a favorite at the Olympics and ignorant to say he has no chance.

You are spreading big words for an almost unknown new comer.

His blazing kick and Nimble style seems well suited to tactical races and potential medals at 1500 through 5K, why is everybody being so bitter
Your post isn't a good one. First, Hocker is attracting a lot of love and hope, he is attracting doubters, he is prompting questions, and he is attracting criticism. Welcome to life as an adult in the public eye, Mr. Hocker. None of it is surprising or remarkable.
As for whether he is a good guy or not, I have seen nothing that prompts an opinion from me one way or the other. On what factors are you basing your opinion?

What? I understand an athlete who has had a heap of abuse or criticism heaped on him shushing the abusers, and it doesn't bother me. If you are right that the criticism of Hocker here is what prompts the shush (and I'm not certain that you are) , it would suggest Hocker has an extremely thin skin. Does it mean he is of bad character? No, but it is immature if the reason you attribute to him is accurate.

Yeah, I didn't get the point of the shush. He didn't want people to cheer for him? It made sense for Gatlin when he was booed after defeating Bolt. He makes sense for Trey Young when he beats the Knicks on their home court after the fans have been taunting him the whole game. What was Hocker's intended message to the Oregon crowd?

The clear best runner in the field is a strength runner who does very well with time trial tactics. Chances are better than 50% that he takes it out hot.
he was shushing Centro for talking to him during the semi.
Cole is confident. Most people are afraid of confident people and thus usually hide their fear in hate. I just like the sport and he is young but I love the confidence. I’m rooting for him. Good luck to all Olympic athletes (I will be bias to us athletes though).

If that was the case, why didn't he even turn in Centro's direction. I think you are making it up.
