One hour to go. Ultimate match up. Lawrence Cherono v Kipchoge. Have they ever gone head to head. It’s usually Cherono v Desisa in Boston and Kipchoge winning London.

Next female may be the other Ugandan NR holder. Juliet Chekwel also holds the NR over the half. On debut over this longer distance in Seville Juliet won in 2.23.13.
15th should be Gerda Steyn. Ran a NR when 9th in Siena in 2.25.28 this year.
Had to get one right apart from Kipchoge

18th female should be Mizuki Matsuda with a PB of 2.21.47 when winning Osaka last year. Then won Nagoya this year just 4 sec slower.
Next could be Molly Seidel, PB of 2.25.13 when 6th in London last year, two places ahead of Sinead Diver.
A huge understatement to say that Molly did way, way better than I thought she could. Congratulations.

I took a break from letsrun and you're still here writing about the best distance runners in the world.
Do you think that Kosgei is going for the win in Sapporo? Her run in Instanbul Half this year wasn't that impressive. I think that Ruth and Peres will have better chance of winning. Ruth won in Doha and there was very hot and humid so I think that in Sapporo she will also run well. Her WR run in Instanbul was amazing. Last year was also great for Peres: winning Valencia Marathon with 2:17, becoming world champ in Gdynia and winning half marathon in Prague
Three years on and another Olympics. I can't believe I didn't believe in Bashir Abdi and Abdi Nageeye in the top 20 finishers back then. I think Benson Kipruto finishes with silver today behind Bekele.
