She CLEARLY is talking about her past work of value as well as the value of future potential work she is willing to put forth, both in terms of athletic performance AND as a brand spokesperson.

Nike valued her work at one number and she thought it was a low ball amount.

Thus she went to the market and found a higher offer as well as better standards for herself.

This is actually what people do in regular jobs all. The. Time.

She did not get a 300% pay raise, she got 3 times more than Nikes most recent best offer, which was much less than what she was getting previously and less than what she was getting when she left college. She is not making more now than she was with Nike, she is making less. If she was making more, she would have said she was, rather than the way she worded it.

Gwens still on the team cause her and Nike have come to terms both parties can agree on. Simple. Colleen left Nike, because her and Nike couldn’t come to terms both parties agree on. Very likely Gwen isn’t asking for the moon and the stars. Gwen is pretty open to the fact she is chasing her dream and enjoys the lifestyle that allows her to spend more time with her family and son.

The thing I find a bit disingenuous is her saying over and over it was a "woman led" brand. Yes, Lulu's audience is a primarily women, but it is very much led by a man and was founded by a man.

Good for her for getting paid but let's not pretend Lululemon is some amazing brand with values. Their clothes are still made in developing nations where they can pay a dollar a day or whatever is not a living wage. And while their website shows POC modeling the clothes, I doubt any POC wears Lululumon.

Good for Colleen. Lululemon suits her well, and she will help expand their customer base. I bet most women wearing Lulu have never heard of Colleen Quigley. She is a model, which I’m sure helped her get the deal. I don’t think they would have signed Frierichs, who isn’t ugly, but is not Colleen hot.

I’m guessing her deal is north of $250K. Lulu has tons of cash and very few endorsed athletes.

Apparently she does, which is why she opted for a contract/job that better suits her preferences. Nike offered one contract. Lululemon offered another. She chose the one she liked better. How does that show lack of understanding of how contracts and jobs work?

You’re right that she chose the one she liked better, and that’s good — the problem is their comments make it seem like Nike and other apparel companies are mistreating their athletes by focusing primarily on performance as a basis for pay scale. I’m sorry but to argue against that in a professional sport is delusional.

Either way, I think this is a win for everyone — she has probably peaked as an athlete, particularly considering the training group she left behind, so she isn’t valuable to Nike. Lululemon doesn’t care how she does on the track, and CQ gets paid more than she was offered to stay at Nike.

All that said, I hope that Leah O’Connor Falland gets the third spot on the team.

There’s no way she was getting paid 150k from Nike so there’s no way her lulu deal is 450k. why would a non Olympic medalist steeplechaser get 150k from Nike. Almost any pro runner seriously don’t even produce tangible income for these companies. I’m amazed how some of the top runners do pull in hundreds of thousands.

I have to imagine Colleen got like 40-80k from Nike. Why would they pay someone much more to simply “run” for them. This isn’t anywhere as popular as nfl/nba/mlb
