Considering he ran 2:15 for a full isn't his PR actually at least 67:30ish? Still impressive progression obviously more going on that just the super shoes. Was he a late to life runner by competitive standards. Because that progression does not look like someone who started running competitively in the teens.
I find it ironic that these boards are populated by so many good, but not great runners hoping for a breakthrough to the elite level. Yet every time someone actually does it’s because of drugs, or shoes...

You are right that people often assume the worst when people improve by relatively big margins. The point I’m making with many of these posts is that these super shoes are really a game changer in the world of long-distance running. They have a tremendous beneficial effect on personal bests. Take a guy like Yuki Kawauchi, toward the tail end of his career running marathons in the 213 range for the past few years and now with the super down to 207. The super shoes are really revolutionary.
Jorge is managed by someone I know, Carlos Roa. The progress may seem like a big jump but when you are getting good coaching and management it changes the game for a runner. From what Roa has told me, Jorge works hard and was training with Derlis Ayala of Paraguay in the mountains of Colombia before the Valencia marathon. Ayala is a 2:10 guy. I would sat Jorge had a breakthrough race in 2016 that 2:15:57. If any race would be to question it would be that one, but the progress from 2:15 to 2:09 could most definitely be the shoes.

Another runner under the same management is Patricio Castillo who ran 2:14 in NYC marathon 2019 and ran 2:11 at the Valencia Marathon as well.
Roa now co-manages Latin American runners with Silver medalist Leo Manzano. I think when you have big figures managing athletes, they bring a different presence in athletes that helps them perform better or gives them the right advice and points them the right way. I am interested to see how some athletes will perform at the Olympic Games.
His slow times were run practically on the equator.
Just going to Hamburg to race is probably responsible for all 16 minutes of his drop from 2:32 to 2:16
The 1:09 was in Panama also
