This post definitely went unrecognized. I'm still in HS, so pretty young, and am raised by, IMO, somewhat strict parents. But the level of overprotection in young kids (5-10) is scary. Parents of younger kids in my small, quaint neighborhood have kept their kids from biking on certain roads (they're too hilly or windy) and often won't let these elementary school age kids bike alone. When it snows in the winter, many parents won't allow their children to sled on any medium or larger sized hills out of safety concerns, and instead confine them to sledding at tiny hills/mounds (5-10 feet in size). I know these issues may seem trivial, but kids are being denied any experiences that give them some independence, which is where the fun in childhood came from.

It's so easy to sit back and criticize the past. Simply cherry-pick the faults of those before us who tried to make a difference (Good, Bad, or Indifferent) in order to fit your socialist agenda. We know the world is not perfect, never has been, and never will be. That being said, we can only learn from the past and strive to make the present and future better. Canceling Sesame Street, tearing down statues and re-naming schools isn't the answer. How about not taking the easy "Cancel everything I don't like" way out and actually do something to make the world better. Try educating others about our past both good and bad, thus equipping them with the knowledge to do better and make the world a better place.

Being this is a running forum, do you actually run? Can you actually contribute something to the running community? I know I can.

Unfortunately I live in Canada, out of the CDC's jurisdiction. Children here should be free to sled down the largest hills they can find, but their fun-sponge parents forbid it.

The CDC's "jurisdiction" are governed by the laws of science and the truth of data, not arbitrary manmade political borders. Trust experts. Trust science.
