This ignores context. Rupp has never run an ultra fast, paced marathon like Berlin. Chicago is probably the fastest course, and guess what? He won that one.
Only an idiot would think rupp doesn't have 2:04-2:05 potential under the same conditions as some of his competitors have run. After all, he has beaten plenty of guys with faster prs.
In my view, kipchoge is the undisputed fave, and Rupp is one of a handful of guys with a decent chance to medal. It's as simple as that.

It's like some people don't pay attention to the sport, or watch the Olympics at all (feasible)? The Olympics is NOT A PACED RACE, it will be TACTICAL. It's almost guaranteed that 3 of the 6 Kenyans/Ethiopians drop out or bomb, then you may have a random Japanese guy that will run well - but still only someone who doesn't follow the sport would take any of these Japanese runners over Galen. Does anyone really think Galen is not capable of 2:04 or 2:05 at worst? I hope not.
Yes, chances for gold are slim. Chances that Galen medals? I'm guessing if you went to the oddsmakers you'd probably get 50-50 odds. Like him or not, the guy WILL be there in the last 5K.
