Since Frank’s no longer an assistant coach at Loyola and is a retired doctor he could do some consulting in China as a side hustle. Sounds like they could use his expertise.

I think the charity idea is good. I don't really put much credence in the "heart condition" as that was from an unnamed, unknown, and unqualified source that Derek used in a story published on June 22. Meza himself states in the LA Times follow up article published on July 2 that the "silver lining" of the situation is that he can line up next year and redeem himself in the 2020 LA Marathon. So, if he had a heart condition, it evidently resolved itself in those ten days.

Given that LA Marathon didn't give Meza a lifetime ban, he can run the 2020 race. Let's take him at his word. My guess is we're on the back end of this news cycle, but the story isn't going away any time soon.

If you're counting hands, I vote go for it.

Dunno if you're aware it, but this story has gone world wide ballistic, a $100,000 challenge would send it in to the stratosphere and generate millions of clicks.

Rojo -- as an example of how big this story is, at a July 4th family barbecue this afternoon, two non-running family members (who would probably identify Galen Rupp as the former back-up catcher for the Phillies) independently asked me if I had heard about the 70-year old that tried to cheat for a world-record.

Doubler -- one of them asked if there really was a website that catches cheaters.

Frank claiming a heart condition is true; it’s consistent with the statement that LHS gave KABC in its story about Frankie retiring for health reason (and, by the way, I wonder who gave that statement, bc it wasn’t his “health issues” that caused the school to remove the Phoenix Marathon article from its website). Similarly, I bet keg boy can confirm Frankie told the coaches of his heart issues. However, what’s likely not true is the actual heart issue that frank says he has. That’s just a convenient excuse.

Nonetheless, they should make the challenge. I believe frank’s first 20k in the 2019 LAM was approximately 6:30-6:35 pace, but I have a real hard time believing that he can run 6:30 pace for 10 miles, 10K, 5K, or even a mile. Use your reason and logic - the guy is 70 years old, hasn’t really run hard in decades, his gate isn’t impressive, he’s overweight, and he’s no Gene Dykes or Ed W. He’s in better shape than most 70 years, but not even close to the shape of Gene or other world class age groupers that could run that pace. It’s obvious, because if he was in that type of shape, he would have knocked out a fast tempo run or track workout with the team to shut all of us up. But he can’t, so all he does is lie, and he can’t even keep his lies straight (and the journalists don’t call him on it). Contrary to Scott’s experience, the only running he does with the team are easy 20-30 minute warmups at 9:00 pace, because he can’t do more.

I joined letsrun specifically due to this thread. So even though I am new here, I understand that rojo is one of the owners. I'll tell you what, he comes off as a real tool in all his posts I see. He acts like he has no clue what is going on like he has better things he is doing. I am not convinced. He has obviously been following this thread daily like the rest of us. Anyway, yeah the dude comes off as a tool.
