Thanks for reminding me about that. I was starting to think that Frank now takes the title of biggest fraud. Fabricating a marathon, though, is ballsy. I disagree in principle with the idea of coming up with a "greatest cheater" ranking. I think it's a bit like ranking international spies: the most successful, cleverest, incredibly devious and cunning spies of all are just never discovered or revealed in any way. Same with the greatest cheaters (and I exclude PED cheats from this hypothetical ranking system - that's a different kettle of fish). By definition, the best road-race cheaters are people you think are just really good runners. They get away with it all and are never discovered. They read threads like this and laugh at the bumbling incompetence of a Frank Meza. To those savants in the art of deception, I say, while I don't really approve of what you did, I must commend you on a job well done. I truly never suspected a thing.

Basically this.
1. He's been confirmed as a cheat with impossible race times and multiple pictures.
2. He's been busted cheating at OTHER marathons. Most of them that he's been in, in fact.
3. The real smoking guy was a pic of him on a bike. His neon green socks and unique shoes match race pics from the same day.
4. Some people want to ruin his career. Most LR posters don't.
5. Story has gone international in multiple outlets that are widely read.
Those are the high points.

Agree with Golgi here. A great cheater doesn’t get caught so most notorious is probably a better argument to make. People tend to lionize the most recent and since it’s the age of participation trophies here are my winners.
Most Audacious: Rosie Ruiz's stealing the win at Boston! She’s synonymous with cheating and always will be.
Most Creative: Litton makes up a marathon but the details were sloppy.
Biggest Douche: Rossi’s bombastic letter, veiled threats, and penchant for violence make him the runaway winner here.
Lifetime Achievement Award: Frank’s methodical slicing and dicing of his PRs over a decade is restrained and maniacal but you can’t keep on robbing the same bank.
Obviously these four belong on the Mt. Rushmore of cheating.

A friend of mine has Franked the same local marathon for 6 or 7 straight years now.
He’s never taken an award , but did use it to BQ a couple of times.
And no. I’m not going to rat him out.
Frank wins since he wanted to be known as the age group world record or world best which is ballsy and completely sociopathic.. We are less shocked by Frank after Kip broke the mold. Like a new normal so to speak. He was more careful than kip but slipped up enough to get nailed.
Kip second - he just wanted to be a serial sub 3 runner. He wasn’t a bad runner but was more of a masters 3:10 guy which would have been quite respectable. His shenanigans and the extent was grand but possibly not as grand as Franks
Rossi as stated beautifully was and probably still is a d-bag. His sad tale really illustrated the domino effect of his actions on his career and family. And the thing w the late Ken Stillman was surreal.

At that meeting, Meza allegedly proclaimed his innocence to the team. I coached kids for many years. I have kids who play sports. Kids respect their coaches and look up to them as mentors. For Loyola to allow Meza to manipulate and lie to the kids long after it was clear that Meza is a fraud was a major failure of the school to live up to its most important responsibility of protecting kids.
Loyola’s refusal to comment on the story based on the claim that Meza “retired” from Loyola in June is also deplorable. Loyola employed the man and allowed him to mentor their student-athletes for more 30 years. The school publicly and privately touted Meza’s “accomplishments” to advance their brand. Head coach Lalo Diaz was aware of the story min April. Rather than face the facts and take action to hold Meza accountable, Diaz allegedly reacted in anger at the journalists. He then allowed Meza to continue to coach until the “medical retirement” in June.
Loyola is widely regarded as one of the top secondary schools in California. It’s a shame that they’ve come us so short on all fronts in how they’ve handled this story.

At least from what I’ve read, Rosie was more clueless than audacious.
She had no intention of “winning” Boston, but was too clueless to realize she jumped in ahead of all the women.
