Apparently things like these banned peptides (specifically BPC-157) are seeping more and more into marathons and ultras as "gym bro optimization culture" perhaps influences it?
Yeah because for a lot of hobby joggers running is one of the biggest parts of their life. If you tell one them they can either not run and do a surgery that might not work and than have to do a few months of physical therapy. Or take peptides for a few weeks. A lot of people are going try the non surgical route.
Maybe, under the guidance of my doctor and only when I didn't plan on competing for a while. But if I had to access something not approved by any health authority, I'd stay clear.
2011 world athletics survey showed 30% of anonymous athletes admitted to doping. And this is a sport with an actual real testing protocol with out of competition testing. Only a handful of ultra marathons do in competition testing and that only catches the people that miscalculated the half life of the banned substances they are taking. But yeah let's attack a dude that's almost 60 years old because im sure cam was the only dude at Cocodona on something.
Yes, lots of people cheat in all aspects of life. And if you get caught (or in Cam's case voluntarily admit to cheating) there are consequences. If there were no consequences then the integrity of the sport is negatively impacted, as it signals that the rules don't matter.
If Cam really didn't think cheating was a big deal he should lean into it. Start cutting courses, body check his competitors out of the way, have Matt Choi follow him on a bike. Really stand by his word
And other Masters Athletes have faced consequences for their doping actions: Loretta Turner, Amanda Mason, Michael Hooker, for example. Cam should not be above this.

It seems ridiculously that Cam would face a consequence for doing something in 2024 to promote healing. BPC is way out of his system by 2026. Please everyone start making sense. Leave Cam alone and get off your high horses!
It lacks perspective unless you head out to a track and start running 90 second laps for over 2 hours at 58 years old…heck at 48 it’s still pretty rare….there are very few people on the planet still able to achieve this naturally…..The time of 2:39 is almost a positive test in itself. I am astounded that anyone would believe that 2:39 in your late 50s would be achievable for a self-proclaimed bow hunter who had a barely under 3hr PR. You don’t set a personal best at 58 years old by nearly 20 minutes @ Eugene, identifying as a hunter. Perhaps if you had run a massive downhill course or a short course with a tailwind?

That survey is more than 15 years old. Cam was stupid enough to admit to doping while the other 30% kept quiet. If you are going to dope, don't post it on social media and talked about in a podcast, and then run in a race that is sactioned. That is just completely stupid.
There's a similar triathlon study from somewhere in that same timeframe where 1 in 7 AGers admitted to physical doping @ Ironman Frankfurt. Testers also found a relationship with athletes taking legal supplements & performance enhancer use -- evidence suggests those doing everything they legally can to get better are the ones who keep going. &, remember, these studies are self-reported. I'm sure a # of athletes opted out when asked or lied. & my guess is that, with the gym space boost/influencer impact/supplement market, that these numbers have only gone up. But none of this is a defense to doping. Just because people compete dirty doesn't mean Hanes gets off & gets to cloud commentary on this. He admitted to it so the rules get applied. Same for anyone who gets caught. Most don't get caught because AGers don't get tested, but examples need to be made out of these guys to keep some semblance of an even playing field at the top of AG fields. On Hanes' podcast he gave his sob story about injuries plaguing him. Des gave her sob story about her dad who worked hard his whole life, had work related problems, & needed help to function better day to day. Hanes likens these two examples to one another, but they're not the same. Des' dad is the gym bro/fun run participant who completes a half marathon & finishes in the back half of a race. People can argue about those people cheating, but Hanes is taking drugs that help him get faster, recover better, & beat runners who can only get marginal gains from good training/are naturally breaking down with age. He's beating those athletes, taking podiums, Boston slots, etc. That's where the line is. Top-end amateur running is about getting the most out of yourself & seeing where you stack up in local/regional/national races. If you're cheating at that level, you're cheating more than just yourself.
Cam’s podcast is wild. He claims that all the skinny nerd runners are pissed that the cool fit bros that used to bully them are now being celebrated for running and also they are taking all of their girlz… so much wisdom from this old man
Whenever someone wants to take the conversation “off line” or uses something tactic to deflect the conversation. they 100% are siding with wrong side. They are just afraid to say it on public. Puzey seems to have mastered this. I wonder what cam is giving him.

Wow this guy is manly! I bet he plays flag football!!!

Exactly, Puzey wants Sage and Cam to sit down and have a conversation with each other. I'm not sure what that would achieve. The conversation right now is between Cam and USADA.
Puzey's brother always failed the eye test for me, so him being lenient makes sense.
He offered to discuss it with me face to face because a comment section is not the place for this nuanced discussion. So we can’t discuss it in comments but you can make a series of posts defending doping. Might as well turn off commenting.
that this point, aside from cam and the coffee club guys have any influencers actually taken a line against bragging about being a doping cheat?
Cam Hane's latest tirade on his IG stories. I run but I'm no runner. I don't care about your f*cking race. I get invited to come and run so I do. I give my best to everything I do. If I run well and that upsets you you're a b*tch. I don't care about your fake outrage. I'm a mountain bowhunter and that's the only reason I run.

This is how I acted when my gf broke up with me in 6th grade.
I didn't care, yeah she broke my heart, but what a b*tch. I did't care though, never cared for her actually. It's actually a good thing because I didn't want to date her in the first place. She didn't break my heart. I miss her.
Crazy to reach the age of 60 and have the brain of a Zoomer.

Solid points. Can someone point me to the content or post where Cam might have said something about going after the American Record in the marathon for his Age Group?
The big shift in his story about how he only took BPC-157 back in 2024 doesn't add up with his initial post that happened after Eugene of this year. Did he delete or edit that comment to fit his new narrative?
But remember folks since it has such a short half life it's basically like a Flintstone vitamin! But then again it was also totally needed as the only way to avoid surgery on his broken foot. Because how else is he supposed to run a 2:39 marathon and keep up with his friend Courtney Dauwalter? How else is he supposed to get into and conquer the Cocodona 250?
