A volunteer moderator deleted several threads on this topic. That's not the way this should work. We believe in free expression and have reinstated them and merged them into this one thread.
As we wrote at the time, "If there is no truth to these rumors, please contact us at letsrun@letsrun.com or give us a call at 844-538-7786 and we will be happy to delete them and issue a statement."
It ends up appearing that the rumors had some teeth to them. Earlier today LetsRun.com co-founder Robert Johnson emailed head coach Jeremy Sudbury to let him know about this thread and asked if there was any truth to it.
At 3:31 pm ET, coach Sudbury emailed me the following:
Hello Robert,
Thank you for reaching out directly.
There were team rule violations. I have worked with our administration, and the involved athletes have been suspended and will not compete the remainder of this season.
Have a nice rest of your weekend.
JeremySubsequently the Stride Report has written an article on the matter:
BREAKING: Multiple Iowa State Athletes Suspended for Season for "Breaking Team Rules," Confirmed via Head Coach Jeremy Sudbury
And coach Sudbury has confirmed to us that no one who ran in the A race at Missouri was impacted by the suspensions. We have asked him about the status of his #3 runner from Missouri as it appears he was arrested last week after leaving the scene of a traffic accident as shown here.

Where did 4-5 athletes test positive? That did not happen in this case? I kid that was caught was confronted by his coach and then gave the names of 4-5 others guys that HE CLAIMS were using. Several of which were not using at all but the kid that was caught wanted to drag them into this for betraying him.
The tests will clear them as never having used but the damage has been done due to behavior like yours.
If there's more than 1 its the biggest doping scandal in NCAA history in XC. I'll let this one play out.

Big 12 entries are out and as Sudbury said, none of Iowa State's top 7 have been excluded from the entry list.
I don't think you understand the gravity of this situation C. Can anyone tell me another time that an athlete was caught doping during NCAA Cross country season?
No matter what happens going forward the program is destroyed it will be labeled forever for this incident.
It's a cross country team and that team exists outside of the top 7 runners.

It's more likely that ISU is going to win the natty and it wont matter with the current state of the NCAA

Conclusion: if one, two, or three athletes crossed the line, the main players, including all the Kenyans on scholarship, should not be penalized.
Thoughts from someone in Ames who has followed the ISU track & field program for 50 years:
* I've known Coach Sudbury for a decade now and have always found him to be honest, professional, and trustworthy. I found Martin Smith, his mentor, to be likewise.
* I know Athletic Director Pollard & faculty rep Tim Day and have found them to have great integrity
* I have no reason to believe any of the Africans are using PEDs. Most of them are older, were All-Americans a year ago, and have had normal progressions. Why would they need to?
* I understand the temptations the younger Americans might face to use PEDs - see who their competition is in the point immediately above
* Cale Wallace has coached women the last two seasons and is not relevant to this discussion (the women are having a great year, by the way). Patrick Peterson is the men's distance assistant.
* I think this unfortunate situation will be handled "by the book" and should not have any lasting impact on any ISU coach or administrator. People have agency and sometimes make poor decisions. This should not tarnish everyone else around them.

Nice post. Coach Sudz has integrity and really cares about his athletes. He goes out of his way to negotiate with his athletes. He always has a plan, but depending on the way the athletes feel during sessions, he's open to tweaking or modifying. Dude really does a great job.
The Kenyan runners love coach Sudz.
Now, hopefully this unfortunate episode where a couple of runners crossed the line, will soon be forgotten.

NCAA doesn't go after coaches when players test positive, which happens regularly, sometimes to the top football programs like Clemson right before the playoffs:

This is the truth. EPO vanishes so quickly (3-4 days) and it would be shocking if any of these athletes test positive.
