A. She's not an 8th grader. B. The course was extemely hard. Top boy- Natioanlly ranked-ran a 15:52. Not all courses are grass tracks.

Well, the DyeStat national rankings seem to mostly look at times. Several dramatic drops and increases and all seem to be correlated to whether the team ran a fast (short?) course or not.

It all gets equalized when teams have to face each other on same course.
In addition to course, many SW meets are at altitude too.

All the ranking sites are looking at times. It's not the only factor but if someone is undefeated in bad competition and running 19 minutes they aren't going to be ranked.

As a Chap parent IMO there is discord on the team, ineffective coaching, and favoritism of certain athletes. There were cracks starting to show last spring during track season. It’s a complete mess this year during XC. Head coach has checked out too and spends much personal time doing other things instead of actually coaching. Sad really.
Always trust your instinct as a parent. When your child’s peace and joy for something once loved fades and there is discord amongst teammates, pay attention. Kids can’t always put it into words but their spirit tells when they are hurting and something isn’t right. Compare notes with other parents and keep open communication with them. This is often how you can find out what’s really going on and how to help them thrive again. Best of luck

There are literally teams ranked below teams that they destroyed at national level meets. They 100% looked at times from the last meet if there weren't head to heads last week. Everything prior to that was largely ignoref.

We are fortunate to be on the rare high school sport that actually has a head to head national championship.
These rankings are OPINION polls that have no influence on Nike races.
The pollsters put much less work into their poll opinions than the posters in these threads do.
They are not using just time. If they did that no team from Utah, CO or the Northeast, Midwest and Northwest would ever get ranked in a poll at all.
Just produce your own list. Truthfully, it will be better than the official polls.
But no need to stress. Just beat teams at your State meet and NXR, and meaningless polls will slowly reflect that.
