The GOP and "conservatism" was headed this way for a half-century and more. Trump merely saw where it was going and was smart enough to get there first.
one of the saddest parts is that these 'republican on the street' interviews have people saying the same thing - some form of "I don't agree with everything MTG/Trump/Gaetz/Gosar says, but they are real people not politicians'
By which they mean they think the proper mode of being a mensch is to be like those charlatan insurrectionists and thieves.
It's heartbreaking.
You could be a politician who has dedicated her entire life to serving and helping people (HRC I'm referring to here) but then these people put conniving con artist thieves above you...because they are more like the losers they hang out with all day at work.
