Gaining control over a foreign country territory is not a win until there is peace and other countries recognize the annexation.
The age of territorial conquest is long time gone.
Powerful countries don't need conquests anymore. They just need to subdue other countries.
If Russia has occupied 20% it doesn't mean that it can use it in anyway.
Donbas has been in a state of war for 8 years. A province which is in state of war cannot thrive.
So besides spending their resources on those 20% of land, Russia can only steal resources like grains, steel and minerals.
The best thing for Russia to do is to find a convenient exit from the war.
Russia will never lose a war, even if it will take 100.000.000 lives. Pride over everything else there, especially when they fight the "rotten West". War will only end when Ukraine will legally give up Donbas and Crimea. Otherwise the entire shore of the Black Sea will be occupied and blocked off for as long as it takes. Considering Zelensky is unwilling to give in, we're facing a long term war, maybe even a decade.
A decade without Russian resources would mean the end of EU as a super power.
The Germans and Japanese were as proud if not prouder than Russia. But their pride saw them succumb to unconditional surrender. Russia will end up in the same boat if they continue on with this war. History, if anyone studies it anymore, repeats its self.

That's hilarious. Pride comes above all else? I think you meant "a looted washing machine, and maybe a porcelain toilet too to ship back to Irkutsk." The Red Army has been reduced to stealing household appliances. So much proud. Big tradition.
Haven't we been told that Ukraine is winning from day one?
And now we are told Russia is "starting to fail" and you still can't see we have been lied to?
No. We haven't. We've been told that the Russian military has been systematically failing to achieve their objectives on their intended timescale and has been suffering an unsustainable number of losses in both manpower and equipment. For the last 6+ months, Ukraine has been preventing Russia from winning. In many ways, that's a huge victory for Ukraine, but it's not winning. Ukraine will not have "won" until every Russian invader is driven back across the pre-2014 borders.
Systematically failing from the start and now starting to fail. And you believe both
Human Rights Watch has documented several cases of Russian military forces committing laws-of-war violations against civilians in occupied areas of the Chernihiv, Kharkiv, and Kyiv regions of Ukraine.
how do you guys see this ending? is this affecting russians and ukrainians outside the war zone at all? I mean, looking at instagram accounts I followed way before the war everything looks the same in both sides. Is war always like this?

every war is different.
I see this as ending in a west germany/east germany situation, with Russia pretty much owning an eastern sliver of ukraine like they owned east germany. The RU will work to undermine the UKR government, with a lot of success.
or
Russia simply declares 'mission accomplished' over the 'nazis' and walks away. Putin can say anything and his m'aga style population will agree with it. So he could probably get away with declaring victory and ending it without an actual win.
I'd probably put a 70% likelihood on the first happening, 20% on the second, and 10% on some other solution like an outright RU victory.

War is a sausage grinder until one side says they have no more flesh to put into the grinder. The way things are looking now, both sides aren't willing to stop sending meat into the grinder.
However, with Western aid it looks like Ukraine is making better sausage than Russia is.
But and however this war has a long way to go. Time will tell. My hopes are that Ukraine pushes Russia out of Ukraine and Russia doesn't use nukes because they might be too proud to admit defeat. If Russia uses nukes, I have absolutely no idea how this war ends, or what the repercussions around the globe might be.
Ben Wallace said Russia’s invasion had “faltered” and was “starting to fail” as 26 countries agreed to give more financial and military aid to Ukraine at a conference in Copenhagen on Thursday, co-hosted by Wallace and the Danish defence minister Morten Bodskov.
Ukraine is receiving military equipment and money from dozens of countries. Russia is receiving nothing from no one. clearly Putin did not factor this into his plans.
Haven't we been told that Ukraine is winning from day one?
No. You absolutely have not been told that from day one, if ever. That's a strawman you made up months ago. It is one of the lamest bits of BS I've ever seen you post, and there are a LOT of lame and false things you've posted.

Wow.
Some of you clowns are arguing that Russia has been failing from day one and others that I made it up that the media reported it that way.

That's called cognitive dissonance.
Created via brainwashing
You are aware the the Russian military can fail in multiple ways, right?
No. You absolutely have not been told that from day one, if ever. That's a strawman you made up months ago. It is one of the lamest bits of BS I've ever seen you post, and there are a LOT of lame and false things you've posted.

How much of Ukraine is occupied by Russia? As of today Russia continues to illegally occupy Ukraine's Autonomous Republic of Crimea (26 081 km²), the city of Sevastopol (864 km²), certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions (16799 km²) — in total 43744 km² or 7,2% of the territory of Ukraine.
7.2 hahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
More than the US gained in Afghanistan. As per Zelensky, Russia controls 20% of Ukraine, so your post is factually incorrect.
The US gained 100% of Afghanistan and held it for 20 years. The US (and its allies) moved an entire occupying military force (army, navy, air force, marines) half way around the globe and conquered the Afghan-Al Qaeda military in a matter of weeks. They did that with minimal losses. Compare that to Russia which, going on 6 months now, can't even occupy it's smaller, weaker neighbor, actually retreats from some places, and has lost tens of thousands of Russian scumbag soldiers in the process. It would be like if the US military couldn't occupy northern Baja.
We could go on all day about how US efforts in Afghanistan actually serve to highlight the ineptitude and cowardice of Russian soldiers, so I hope you run this demented attempt again. You don't seem to grasp how ridiculous you look.

Some believe both.
You are a liar or deluded, probably both. With respect to whether the Russian military can defeat the Ukrainian military and occupy Ukraine, no one was ever in doubt about that UNTIL Russian cowards actually started retreating from Ukrainian cities they attacked (Kyiv and Kharkiv). Then some people reasonably started doubting the capabilities of the Russian military which even YOU must admit has been proven to be an inept, cowardly, undisciplined, and weak force that looks like a joke on the global scale. We ALL now know the true character of Russia and its military, and have reasonable doubts that Russian will ever be able to attain its goals in Ukraine.
Try, if you can, to understand the difference between what I just posted and the strawman argument you tried to create so you could post more Jimmy Dore stuff.
