That's a good point about WADA micromanaging medical decisions, but one thing they could do is require athletes to get a TUE for it. Might discourage the practice. They require TUEs for asthma medications, correct? Same thing happens there, with a lot of athletes getting prescriptions they don't need. I tend to recall the rate of asthma diagnosis in Olympic distance runners is something like 3-4x the general population.

Thanks for the reference. I am not sure I will get to that today, but I look forward to reading it. There is basically no discussion of medical practice in the Dr. Brown decision, except to note that there was a lot of testimony much of it confusing and contradictory and the the panel decided it was not for them to decide.

They could require athletes to get a TUE for any substance on the prohibited list. There have been multiple petitions from USADA to have WADA add thyroid medications to the prohibited list. Those have not been sufficient to get thyroid meds added. So while that is theoretically possible, it appears that is beyond the current will of the WADA administrators.

Without looking up the specifics again, most asthma medications are allowable without a TUE. It used to be more tightly regulated, but was loosened up, I believe around 2009? Some asthma medications require at TUE above certain very high threshhold. There are a couple that require a TUE. I can't recall exactly which med is which.

He's lucky nobody has referred a case against him to child protective services. Giving testosterone to a child by a non doctor for a non medical reason? Really that's disgusting and abusive.

Alberto got caught. Whether he "intended" to or not he danced too close to the fire and got burned. Unfortunately perception is greater than truth and ANY athlete that worked with Alberto has now been stigmatized whether they cheated or not.

Yes. Magness was diagnosed by Brown with the serious autoimmune disease hashimoto's and put on 200mg L-Thyroxin and 20mg Cytomel when he was 15! He trusted his doctor, and took the meds day after day. He even wrote a lengthy blog post talking about the condition and how meds are needed but wouldn't work on someone without hashimoto's.

15 years later he found out that he probably never had Hashimoto's. He had to take meds his whole life he didn't need, and now his body doesn't produce enough anymore so he is stuck with it for the rest of his life. He was very mad at Dr Brown, saying he abused the mind of a 15-year old child that trusted his doctor.

Brown & Salazar are the ideal doping duo, this also explains why NOP athletes have never been caught, they made 100% sure nothing is going to happen. The medical records don't exist anymore, Brown abused his license to improve the performance of athletes.

USA has shown time and time again, twice this season even, that it has a doping problem.

Yet calls to ban Kenya? There should indeed be calls to ban the USA based on this logic.

Right now we are about to watch two NOP athletes in the Men's 800m go for gold. If the NOP was a Kenyan project there would be absolute outcry following today's announcement. Instead American's sit there and cheer on Brazier and Murphy.

If the Kenyan in the final wins today he will be called a doper I'd bet my life on it.

They made it look as though they accepted his bullshit about trying to play within the rules and just making a couple goofs here and there. That this would happen is essentially a given.

Hopefully Salazar remains a former figure in track and field. He was a great competitor who left the sport far worse off then when he entered it and hopefully will be remembered more for helping ruin the sport, both at the organizational level and in terms of hurting individual people without any remorse at all, than for his own tainted efforts.

Ok but why wouldn't they bring the hammer down on a guy who is NOT well liked by anyone.

Can you clarify who you are referring to as "the people in charge of this?"

It is clear that USADA argued vociferously that Salazar was well and intentionally outside of the rules. They must be very disappointed by this outcome.

The people who (mostly) accepted his explanation for being outside of the rules were the panel.

Serves him right. Same as Trever Graham. I don't think Salazar has ever had a "real" job. Now lets see how he rebounds from this.

The testosterone "experiments" don't pass the straight face test. He obviously was seeing how much he could rub in to his athletes without getting caught. The only reason someone would do that is to see how far they could go in breaking the rules.

It also is clear that he was creating a fake record of compliance to explain what was happening. He would ask what the line was and then create a record that he did not cross the line. Perhaps he was just being careful. More likely is that he knew people would see injections and infusions and he needed documentation to show it was legal.

Guilty beyond a reasonable doubt--no. Possible he was just a paranoid freak--yes. But common sense says he cheated.

As for the "this is all they could find" argument--this is all they needed to find to ban him; they are going to be very conservative in the case they bring because they don't want to lose; and Alberto made it hard for them to find more (and I doubt they reviewed all of his texts, e-mails, etc).

You are either lying about having read the report, or you did not understand what you read.

Hint: "beyond a reasonable doubt" is not a standard under the WADA code.

On L-Carnitine!?!?!?! No, not a LEGAL supplement?!? Competing against East Africans doped to the gills on EPO, HGH, etc. Spare me the drama, but taking L-Carnitine is no different than having an extra protein shake after a workout.

Admittedly Salazar has engaged in some shady practices here, but a 4 year ban doesn't fit the "crime." If he ends up with anything more than one year I'd be very, very surprised.

You just lost all credibility by referring to "Google" as your source on L-Carnitine/EPO/HGH...

It's not new. It's been known. Also known in many other places, too, like Ethiopia, Kenya, Russia, GB, etc.

The dopers hurt the clean athletes. Financial support of many needs to stop. Clean sport only.
