This is completely for a different thread, but I'd argue that D1 and D2 will cease to exist by 2040 instead. D1 schools are all interested in revenue, which means only basketball and football. Because no D3 sport is a revenue sport, all sports will survive.

Gotta think Sebhat may regret doubling. The 800 prelim will be no joke, and could be felt in the 1500 final the following day. Will be interesting to see if he really is capable of pulling it off.
Emily Gapinski from St Thomas should probably be in your top 3 in the 1500, she might not be top doubling back in the 8, but she killed everyone indoor in the mile and 1600 leg of the dmr and has a 4:23 and 2:08 to her name.
Wonder if NCC thought that it might be best to avoid going all in on the 15 to score 6/8/10 points because of how tough the field is and are hoping to nab whatever points they can from him from 4th-8th place finishes in both. They have to be the favorites for the national title, they just need to grind out some points.

Hadn't thought of it from that angle.
Rumor has it Ian lamere hasn't ran a step in the last 2 weeks, he's just been practicing his post race interviews.
5k picks
1. Ian LaMere, Platteville
2. Josh Thorson, Eau Claire
3. Tim Vasquez, North Central
4. Cole Decker, Central
5. John Fowler, Pomona-Pitzer
6. Zach Plank, North Central
7. Bijan Mazaheri, Williams
8. Benjamin Fazio, RPI
I think there are two possible outcomes for the 10k-5k.
Possible outcome number 1:
Ian LaMere takes the double crown. Lau or some other caveman tries to make him work for it. Forces Ian to win in something like 29:20. Then he doubles back and faces the same thing but by Thorson or some other fresh dude thinking he has a shot, but ends up setting LaMere up for a crazy double winning in just at or under 14.
Possible outcome number 2:
LaMere doesn't win either. The 10 is won in a pedestrian 31:30-32:00 by someone with a stronger kick than LaMere. In this scenario poor Iowa Farm boy Cole Decker doesn't get AA even though he has run mid 29s and 14 low. After getting robbed, LaMere comes back and reenacts the Platteville 5k and tries for a sub 14 but just sets up Thorson for the win. LaMere ends up taking a 5th-8th place finish. After LaMere cross the line with his tale between his legs Thorson walks up with a pair of scissors and cuts his man bun off and feeds it to Derrick "the hub" Rubis.
I'd put good money on Hart Horner making sure the pace goes out fast in the 10. I don't think he will beat LaMere, but he could place high--or incredibly low, but given that he didn't try to take a 3k out in 2:01 through the 800 after running 14:28 the day before I think it's more likely we see the 2015 3rd/6th Hart than the 2016 Indoor Hart.

Agreed. He has good speed, but not the strength to handle prelims and finals in both.

Either scenario is possible but how Lamere's attempt at a double plays out may be largely determined by the weather. I don't see Lamere letting the 10 come down to a kick though. He's experienced enough, and his coach is smart enough, to know that Lamere doesn't have the speed to let it go to a kick. I think he'll make sure he wins the 10 and then hope for the best in the 5.
I like the Rubis reference.

I think you need to reevaluate your running basics. Sebhat is one of the strongest guys in the field. He has an 8k PR that is as fast or faster than 95% of the 15 and 8 field. He has a strong 3k PR, and probably better range than the Olaf guys. His strength carried him to a 3:44 not his speed. He is a very strong contender in both events, and is more than capable of scoring 15+ points between the 2.
Sebhat is running well, but it's a tough double. He might be just as good as Campbell, Escher, and Marquardt in the 1500 and Black and Molinaro in the 800, but he's running half the races they all are in 80 degree weather. To pull 15 points between the two he would have to beat at least three of those five. I don't see that happening.
