10/27/2025 - This thread started well before anything was confirmed by Iowa State.
A volunteer moderator deleted several threads on this topic. That's not the way this should work. We believe in free expression and have reinstated them and merged them into this one thread.
As we wrote at the time, "If there is no truth to these rumors, please contact us at letsrun@letsrun.com or give us a call at 844-538-7786 and we will be happy to delete them and issue a statement."
It ends up appearing that the rumors had some teeth to them. Earlier today LetsRun.com co-founder Robert Johnson emailed head coach Jeremy Sudbury to let him know about this thread and asked if there was any truth to it.
At 3:31 pm ET, coach Sudbury emailed me the following:
And coach Sudbury has confirmed to us that no one who ran in the A race at Missouri was impacted by the suspensions. We have asked him about the status of his #3 runner from Missouri as it appears he was arrested last week after leaving the scene of a traffic accident as shown here.
Previous thread titles included, "ALLEGED Doping Bust at NCAA Program. What Now?" and "Iowa State EPO"
So the not top 7 athletes are doped but the top 7 athletes are??? That doesn't make sense
You are correct - what you wrote does not make sense.
Big XIIs will be interesting. I don’t fault the coach for the way he’s responded to Robert’s emails. Hopefully there continues to be more questions from others and more transparency.
Yes I am and unlike Ghost1 I'm not going to give a list of how great the coaches and athletes are like it's a Disney movie.
Recruiting a banned athlete and having 4 to 5 athletes test positive before BIG 12 Conference is a bit different don't you think. What I am aware of is whoever recruited the Kenyan (which there have been a few) is no longer doing that.
BTW I was tested at Arkansas about 7 times in total.
The athlete that was a banned athlete at Arkansas wasn't even a Kenyan. So either you're racist or you have no idea what was going on. Also, there have been no changes in staff at Arkansas in a long time so I'm not sure how accurate your statement is about "is no longer doing that." Especially when Arkansas just got two new actual athletes that are from Kenya.
Also drug testing at schools and within the NCAA is probably a lot different than it was back in the early 2000's. But keep living in a time from two decades ago thats fine too.
The Kenyan guys hang together outside of workouts, Watts goes to his altitude tent, and the Americans outside of Watts hang together after workouts. The Kenyan guys have been clean and are clean once again. The second tier guys that were using and how they came into the substance has been irresponsibly discussed enough. It will not be known who was suspended outside of SC because their season is over and we would not have been seeing them Friday anyway. I guess we can see who transfers out and that might be a tell.
Iowa state confirms non of their top 7 from Mizzou got suspended. Check Instagram tags on their latest post.
The 8th runner for the cyclones at Gans Creek, has a foreign sounding name, H.H., but he's a US citizen. He finished 75th(23:35) in Gans Creek A race, about 1 minute 5 seconds behind the winner. If this kid took something it didn't look like the benefit was worthy of the risk. This kid is a 3:48/14:11 runner (14:02, indoors). Very solid credentials, but I doubt he's going to put his career on the line, intentionally. Makes no sense.
Now that most of the investigation has come to light, let's hope that coach Sudbury and Iowa State can get back to business and prepare for the Big 12 cross-country championships in Lawrence Kansas on Friday the 31st of October. This distraction has been counter-productive for the team in many ways and it's really regrettable. The kids and the coach don't deserve this. The psychological stress induced by all this is counterproductive to good performance.
My bad that was phrased confusingly. I meant to say that is seems illogical that the non-top-7 athletes are doped but the top 7 athletes aren't.
Agree. I find it very difficult to believe the entire top 7 is clean.
These are 14:00/29:00 type runners from Kenya. Good but not great runners. Doubtful that Kenyans are doping to run 14:00/29:00. Makes no sense. The better Kenyan runners, 18-20 years, go to Japan, and run 13:00/27:00 low over there. Everything is pragmatics for Kenyans - they simply want a better life and help their families. Many of them don't even like running - they prefer soccer football but they run because it's the only thing they can do. I've been to Kenya a few times so I know what I'm talking about because I've talked with these guys and many of them have begged me to get them to go abroad.
I graduated in 2016 so the two decade thing Is out the window you head case. Regarding the Arkansas program the results speak for themselves and Buck has done a fantastic job replacing the great John Mcdonnell.
But Buck isn't at the centre of the biggest doping scandal in NCAA XC history Iowa State are and justice should be served not covered up or this will happen again and again.
Why? Because of message board rumors? There has been and never was ANY allegation or proof that any African born runners have been using at ISU. It has always been the B-team guys from the USA that are in trouble at ISU. One kid mentioned 4 or 5 but that is not going to be the number, he was being bitter and hurting people on the way out. He got snitched on and he snitched back hoping to hurt whoever told Suds about all of this. My guess is two or three dudes- a small pocket. The rush to judgement is crazy. If these kids were from Australia, we would not even be having this discussion. The Razorback has issues with Africans
Now- should their be some accountability for that on the staff? I think it should be investigated.
It might be hard to believe but many African kids don't want to screw up the opportunity that they have. Foreign kids are so much easier than kids from the states. They don't complain as much, they go to class, they work really hard, and they don't have their HS trainer try to stick their nose in the college program like kids from the USA do.
I am glad that you care so much- you clearly love the sport. I don't understand why you feel the need to go off of half truths and judge people without the information of what happened- help me understand that. This is going to end up as two scrubs taking something and getting caught. Nothing more- yet, you seem KNOW that it is. Please share what you know other than your hate for Suds and Cale. (And I agree with you that there should be a review on how they have done things)
