I wanted to say that goose dug deep in that 1500 — some people on here were of the opinion that you’ve gotta be arrogant off that track, or confrontational — “oh, y’gotta have the dog in you.”
Well, no. Goose dug deep, got a medal, and STILL gets to go home and play with his turtle. Leaves the arrogance to others. Does it his way.
Love him for this!
Can he check in on Ollie before playing with his turtle? That boy is down bad right now after years of trolling Hocker for cheap LOLs.
I actually think Norman let everyone burn themselves out. He looked he was doing just enough to make the final. The final should be an exciting race. My guess is the winner runs around 43.65 with 2nd and 3rd finishing just under or right at 44 flat.

Comes in third. And good for him. I'm really happy for him and the American team. But he has the talent to be the front man. I just don't see killer instinct. That said, I don't really know what else he could've done today to place any higher.
Kenyans, being African, and mopping the floor with white, western athletes is never a positive visual and makes many very, very, angry. DUH!!
See comments on the shellacking at the 3000 steeplechase women. Lots of angry white men.
Regarding the steeple it's kind of an unfairly placed anger. The event isn't run very much in high school, most high school tracks don't even have a water jump. Most steeplers just kind of fall into the event (no pun intended) when they don't have a lot of success in the flat races or are steered by the college coach to fill out the event. So a lot of times in just a matter of luck that the US has good steeplers. It's more cyclical depending on who takes it up. A guy I coached in HS was a very good, 4:14 for the mile but after a year or two in college he switched to the steeple and became world class. When the US gets blue chip high schoolers who want to focus on the steeple I think we'll see a more consistent presence on the world stage. Keep in mind however, the Africans live for the event and have plenty of quality runners and thus are always very tough...that will never change.
As a sprinter and primarilly a fan of the sprints, I didn’t think it was possible to top Lyle’s win in the 100m. It was so dramatic, and had the added weight of 20 years of American failure.
But I was wrong. Hocker set the world on fire with his win. And the race couldn’t have been more exciting! Centro’s win back in ‘16 was awesome, because he’s a local guy,and American of course, but the race was just ok. This race was amazing. The pace Ingerbritsen laid down was insane! But he couldn’t burn Hocker out.
This Olympic track meet has been unreal. And we still have both 400m Hurdles to go!
That was electric. Really inspiring. I had goosebumps.
I’m a 41 year old that’s been a very casual track observer the past 11 years since I stopped coaching and started having kids. This might just get me back in.
