texas does seem to be doing well.

FL is not doing well. FL is always one of the 3-5 deadliest per capita states, and its daily death count is the same now has it has been since around Mid-March, while the rest of the country has improved markedly.

Interestingly the most deadly region of the US is now an east-west strip from Illiniois reaching across the midwest to PA.

I'd be interested to know why that is. Maybe the remnant of winter...were people still inside a month ago when they got sick and are dying now? But the truly cold places in the lower 48 aren't also suffering, so it may not be that.

Probably have to break down deaths county by county to get a better idea..to see if it is rural or urban or suburban or what.

Yes, really. Those states are 100% open and cases continue to fall. It's over. Past death rates cannot be changed by future decisions, so that's not relevant, nor is "the bug hit those two states later," whatever that means.

That great a male/female difference doesn't seem plausible . . . This CDC table has U.S. life expectancy of 46.3 (male) and 48.3 (female), but the larger point that we have made great progress stands.
