Good for you . But put me in the box of feeling CONNED by this method. I got worse after 7 weeks months and if you think someone should carry on after 7 weeks of not getting better bro, you gonna have to be high. That's over half of a normal training block. I can't believe I wasted that amount of time. Also, the workouts are just too easy. If you think as a 18 min guy I'm running that slow for easy runs as well you must be higher. I did try it, I just don't see how you can benefit from it and I saw zero improvement maybe even a decline.
I'm on a recovery month post Piftz but as I build up back again towards fitness I'll be using Daniels based coach. I told my coach who has 25 years collegiate experience what i had done for November and December last year and he flat out almost laughed in my face.
Of course I'm sure someone will say I didn't do it properly blah blah blah. It's just a horrible training method . It's funny because I see someone mention Ben felton. I asked him on social media and he pretty much laughed at me as well for thinking there is even such a thing as Norwegian Singles.
If you are not trolling,
This approach is all about increasing and maximising load sustainability, so if your load before starting was higher than while doing this method than it’s not a surprise over the short term you detrained.
Would have been helpful if you described your training, paces or whether you did 3 x 30min + of subT including a long run, but if it’s not for you then so be it.
“25 years collegiate” gotcha, Daniels coach, coaching during the period of the worst performance period for western athletes endurance runners.
Ben’s a nice guy, run several training runs with him, quite fast but doesn’t really understand training or how to maximise his potential and yes double Norwegian method is what he knows as that’s what the pros are doing.
as a coach, I find most athletes know very little about training (especially the faster ones) and they cherry pick sessions and “plans” that look good on though, but need those recovery weeks as they send you to the well by overtraining most athletes,
the Daniels or piftz methods just don’t scale well for those doing less than 12 hours a week every week of every year to get enough development both aerobic and anaerobic work
