Agreed. He picked on the wrong age-group to pull off a stunt like that and that's the part that pissed me off the most. I agree, this fake runner is not good enough to be at an aid station handing out water to any race the ED had raced in. For this clown to think that people would believe he could run faster than ED and Gene is laughable, but he did mess with the wrong age-group as I too would not stand by and let ED be surpassed by this phony excuse for a runner. The apparel change during a race at that pace and the effort that it would take sounds Litton-ish to me!!!!!!

I took a look at MarathonFoto and it could be done, but it wouldn't be as user-friendly the way I envision it. if there was more interest, I could probably get it to work reasonably well and figure out how to make it user-friendly. The background code would be more ugly though.
I also was thinking while at work today - I wish I would have made the download progress bar a marathon course and as the photos download, had an image of Frank running along the winding course, cutting it and urinating on the side. Crude, I know. But amusing in thought.
Since I only see one person using the program, I'm currently planning to abandon it. Thanks for trying it.

When this first thread first started I thought why not. You got a guy on the East coast and a guy on the West coast running incredible times. I live near Gene Dykes and never heard of him 3 years ago so I assumed Frank was the real deal.As soon as someone posted about CIM I knew Frank was a fraud.
Ed Whitlock did not think his sub 3 at 70 was that big of deal and thought it would be broken. I believe he would of been the first guy to shake to shake Genes hand if he broke his record. Class. Gene would probably cheer someone on to break his time someday. Those two guys are the real deal and what the sport of amateur masters running should be. We don’t need cheaters and creeps like Frank.

Agree - I believe what Derek implied was that basically Phx is going to dq him after they go thru the motions and they don’t want anymore emails.
I doubt any race has been sued for dq-ing a recreational runner.

Great thread. Sorry for what is probably a dumb question but just to help my understanding of all the discussion... How close does a chip need to get to a timing mat in order to register? Does the chip need to pass directly over the mat or just pass within a certain proximity? Thanks.

Well, in magnitude, it is bigger than either story. Kip and Mike didn't cheat their way to being one of the best age group runners in history and didn't try to surpass an icon like Ed Whitlock. And in duration, 10+ years must be some kind of record. Kip wasn't anywhere close to this, was he? Even the legendary Rosie Ruiz had enough sense to give up after 2 marathons. Congrats Frank. You are GOAT after all.

+1, and not sure what Loyola High School administrators, alums and parents are thinking. What makes them look even more foolish are the quotes from Coach Diaz in the first LA Times article. At the time the LA Times article was published, the MI articles were out, the message board was well established, and Diaz was aware of this but still went on the record to defend Frankie. It doesn't make any sense. A simple "no comment, he's no longer affiliated with the program" would have ended the story for Loyola. I can't figure out why the Loyola High School peeps want to protect this cheater and fraud.
