Changes at William & Mary. Rumors among alumni are that Heacock was politely forced out of the Director role due to lack of results. The AD wants to move forward with a distance coach as the Director but is not considering promoting the current distance coaches .
Uh oh. Not good for Braden. He has done a decent job for what they are and the funding they are given. He has a lot of years under his belt. Why wouldn't he be at least given a look?
I'm sure he'd love to come back to Cali and take that Davis job
I am not close to W&M; but from what I've seen over the years:
Long time head coach retires on good terms...very likely a long time assistant takes over.
Head coach pushed out or fired...very likely the admin look to go in a completely different direction (for better or for worse).
W&M would appear to be the latter ((not that old of a coach, pushed into admin). If you read the article, they are hiring a firm to assist in the search. I would say next to 0% chance an outside firm comes back with "we feel your best option is elevating a current assistant". Braden needs to start applying or needs to look for another career field in Williamsburg.

Prior to Braden, W&M cross country had a consistent presence at NCAAs not just from a couple individuals but as a team. They have not reached close to that level of success with Braden.
Heacock deserves most of the blame for taking scholarships away from distance runners and giving them to jav throwers. The changing NCAA landscape also made it challenging.
Regardless, very influential alumni and the AD seem to feel that there should have been much better production coming from Braden's distance athletes.
Seeing some of these job posts on the xctf.portal account, "Ast. Coach - Part Time" - Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred. Who has a master's that's accepting a part time job that requires the time of 1.5 full time jobs???
Perhaps the coaching position is part time and there is a companion “teaching” position that when combined is full time. And teaching at the college level typically requires a master degree?
