I’m in it for the eternal victory lap. I thought I would be done with it when Biden was inaugurated, which is how long it took these fools to finally realize there was no way trump would be staying. So, he goes out of his way to pretend like he's driving, but not only does he leave the second steering wheel in plain sight he pulls right up to reporters from all networks and he allows them to take video and photos inside? Pretty sure Newsmax and Fox News had reporters there. Where are the pictures of inside that show this steering wheel? From the posted photo and the video (which are un altered) it certainly does look like it might be a steering wheel. But, that's when you are supposed to use common sense (which you and the rest of your kind are clearly at a loss for). The secret service agent next to Biden was holding onto special dashboard rails, you know, since the truck is pretty quick.

Speculating, but that probably means the passenger isn't Secret Service, more likely a Ford or White House publicist of some sort.

And now that we've seen the reveal, let's talk about the truck itself.

It's pretty great that Ford is going to sell an electric F-150. The problem is that the engineering is all wrong and it will be impossible to sell it at a profit.

The Cybertruck doesn't look like that just to get attention. It looks that way in order to be aerodynamic. With the electric F-150 having about the same drag coefficient as the gas-powered model, you'll need roughly 50% more battery power to get the same performance as a comparable Cybertruck. And that kills your profit margin.

Add that to the fact that Ford does not make its own batteries like Tesla will in Austin. Ford doesn't even have a dedicated partnership plant like Tesla/Panasonic in Nevada and GM/LGChem in Lordstown. So Ford will pay more per kWh than Tesla and GM for the foreseeable future.

Ford will need big help from the infrastructure bill if it wants to survive as a company.

Trumpists really see the truth as malleable, politics as a game to win no matter what lies and amorality it takes.

We can only guess how well this thing will sell, but I expect an awful lot of working trucks don't get used for extended mileage.

When we did the "self-driving car / transportation as a service" I tried to make the point that fleet automation and electrification will probably lead to a proliferation of vehicles highly specialized for a particular niche. For individually owned family vehicles, one needs something that can do both the daily commute and the occasional long distance trip reasonably well, but as an example of the other extreme, a mail truck literally does the same route every day and nothing else so can be highly optimized for that task.

My guess that it was a secret service guy holding a rail was just that, a guess. I'll trust you on this since I don't have a clue who it is and I haven't seen a photo of what he may be holding.

It's a cheap truck intended for the fleet vehicle market. That's why it's only like $40k with a ~200 mile range

The thought that Ford doesn't make positive margins on an F-150 does amuse me though, so thanks for the laugh!

As a photographer, I can see an egregious use of the Photoshop clone stamp tool in your photo. I could have done a much better job, but I'm a professional, not some right-wing schmuck.

That's a good point. And I think think Ford will easily sell every EV it makes.

But again the problem is sourcing of batteries. Without an economical battery supply Ford will lose money on every vehicle. So they will need to sell limited quantities for several years unless they get substantial help from the government.

It sounds like what Biden wants to do is subsidize cars made in America with union labor. That leaves out Tesla and perhaps levels the playing field between Cybertruck and F-150. Cybertruck is made in Texas, but without union labor. At the same time, this also leaves out the Ford Mustang Mach E, which is made in Mexico.
