MI published several articles with definitive evidence that Meza cheated. The reputation he had built in the medical field over 40 years was destroyed and Kaiser disowned him. His story appeared on Inside Edition and Good Morning America. Meza couldn't handle the shame and commited suicide, but that isn't enough for you?

What campaign of denial and disinformation are you talking about? It seems that the story has run it's course and it's no longer a matter of public interest. Many people, including his family, react to grief with denial so why does that bother you so much?

It's unlikely other people assisted Meza with his cheating but if someone did, it would be impossible to prove. Although I don't believe it's warranted, Derek feels remorse for what happened, but you want to keep it going. What would that accomplish? Why do you feel so much hatred for Meza's memory? He was severely punished and ended his life.

Derek Murphy said he was going to write another article on the Meza saga. Others have said their going to push races to DQ him in other races?

The health and length of this thread show this topic is still of public interest.

It's possible others assisted in or knew of Frank's cheating - or ought to have known. Maybe some of them post here. If so, I can see why there's effort to sweep this under the rug.

What message does being head-in-the-sand Ostriches send? We incentivize suicide? By then allowing bogus results to stand and by avoiding scrutiny as if taboo?

Frank's tragic end seems to have had its intended effect. Review of his misdeed and bogus results seems to have largely ended.

There was mention some future investigative reporter might do a deep dive, perhaps adding new light or facts. I'd welcome that.

Anyone interested digging into or discussing this should should be free to do so without being wrongly shamed or maligned.

A few points:

1. I would not say I am softening my approach. Only that I am refocusing. I had previously decided to focus less on bandits. I will report on cheaters in pretty much the same way.

2. The main changes will be related to social media. I had previously stopped allowing posts on my group FB page. I’ve reopened that ability, but will block/ban people that can’t keep discussion respectful. This won’t affect investigations in the least.

3. My follow up article will be about the media and some of the response after Frank’s death, the claims of bullying, etc. I will not defend the evidence. The evidence is clear to anyone that bothers to look at it.

I have not cowed or compromised. My decision to not focus on individual bandits, and similar situations was made months ago.

My reporting on serial cheaters and the like will be largely unchanged. The changes are focused primarily on the noise and the perceptions outside of the articles themselves.

To further that good work, I put my money where my mouth is and ponied up a modest contribution.

If others here care about integrity of the competitive result, they might do likewise.

If you write an article about the Frank Meza cheat, I would be interested in reading it. This wasn't just a one time cheat that tried to qualify for Boston 1 time, he cheated over a decade! As for his medical work and calling his employers, I am not really interested in that. I would also be interested in why the family still believe the lies with irrefutable evidence in front of them that he cheated.
