My nap was 60 minutes.I don't carry food or water,but take vitamin c and drink alot of water before I begin.This time around was not too bad unlike last month,so I'm used to it now,I would say the body, the weights are getting used to the high altitudes.

Again it is a road test on my body to see how am I wheeling my body to shape and it looks great.

The 85 day training phase II,I was jogging in crawling pace today for 120 minutes,I thought I was going to go beyond that minutes;however the body say no-more,you are hurting me I stop.

I stop by the gym ant take 15 minutes sauna and the body keep telling me that is enough for today, so I quit and came home took.

I got home drink two classes of 2% milk and mu eyes tells me take a TIGER-nap and I did for 37 minutes,when I woke up,I was ready mentally,but physically is in pain.

This will give me time to read alot because the brains can take it now and rewrite the chapter of corruption in my book.The title called "Home Free"

did you ever run any of the big Indoor meets in the 70's, at Madison Square Garden in N.Y. or Jack in Box in San Diego, Sunkist and LA Times meets in Los Angeles or the one in Portland? I recall Suleman Nyambui from Tanzania and UTEP running alot of big 2 mile races against guys like Doug Padilla in the late 70's, even remember seeing Kimeto at a meet or 2 but don't remember you running. I'm sure you would have run 8:20 2 mile, even on those 12 lap to the mile board tracks. Did you run the 2 mile and mile indoors?

Henry, there was a story that said right before one of the indoor races, either LA Times, Sunkist, or Jack-in-the-Box, you were seen eating a hot dog and a coke 10 minutes before -- and ran 8:15!

Is that story true or not?

To 70's old timer,

If I recall, I ran 2 miles in Jack in Box in San Diego and LA Times meets.My time was 8:15 min,I remember signing a paper for meet record,they say I also broke 3k in the process of two miles record.

Kimeto used to dictates all the races in the meets,when I came in, he was not visible any more.

I also ran in Portland a mile in 4:01 min and flew to San Blas Puerico half-marathon ran that in 64 min

I think it was in one of the races in someplace.What about it? I know people like to hear stories like these.

I remember running in Commonwealth Games in 1978 and few minutes before the race I drank a bottle of beer. How is that sound? Isn't very crazy right!

Speaking of Kimeto's reputation for dictating the pace, I was the crazy mzungu who went with Kimeto and Kimobwa in the 1977 NCAA 5000. 4:20 at the mile, we then started ripping off 62 second laps under the mid-afternoon heat. I used to have a photo of the race, the three of us had gapped the pack by nearly the length of the straightaway. In the 90 degree heat, soon I was seeing spots, and found myself sitting on the infield wondering what day it was. Kimeto and Kimobwa barely hung on themselves, the pack closed the gap on the last lap.

I don't remember,unless it was beer I can remember that very well,and if I did what difference does make I ran a race,perhaps I won it or I didn't winning.

This question has been asked many times,that is why I used to like John Chaplin because the reporters dared to step in WSU campus for these kinds of silly questions.They are looking for people who are committing crimes or what are they? asked John Chaplin.

Hot-dogs is American food made product.They put in the ad it is for consumers. I'm one the costumers. They sit in the stadium with a permit and wait for me to buy their food and drinks. There is nothing wrong with that? It is business for people,who are selling their food in the stadium moreover it has been checked by health-administration.You are asking a question as if it is a crime commited by me.

Another asked similar question about drinking,he came to WSU campus,wondering about my drinking and running and my coach told him.Is henry hurting anybody?Is he running well?

So I take it the hot dog story is what we call an "urban legend?" Maybe someone saw you eating a hot dog and before you know it the story became you ate one right before a race? If you had eaten that hot dog 10 minutes before a race your stomach would have to be made of iron.

Champaign IL, right? That was a great race! I was there (in the stands). Tony Staynings finished 3rd(?). Almost stole the win...

I want to ask general questions:

Do you guys ever think of asking questions that helps American youth to get into running or you don't care?

It shows we are not into developing that part of questioning for the benefit of youth development in this continent.

I want to see the response on this.

One has to be able to have a laugh at one's self, and not take everything so seriously. Having a laugh on past events does nothing to diminish the great runner you were or the fine adult you are today. Relax.

It's all good! Henry's fire burns brightly! I myself have felt the heat! :)

Henry, I know that the youth / 2006 outlook is your pre-occupation of sorts. Let's focus on that for a while.

I'm a teacher and I know the kids are very serious in this continent,I understand their learning Psychology from the basic knowledge through college.

When kids realize you are not serious,you just messing around they treat you as such.Moreover not even respect you.They go home and explain their parents what you are doing and your attitude toward learning is not so important.

I coached in high schools and taught them in the class-room and when I left coaching kids left too.Kids needs good guidance not mix feelings.

I also observed teachers and coaches the way they teach. The responses from the kids and how the teachers lost respect from kids were very clear.Why? because kids get confused;nevertherless,one has to know kids are there to learn and not waste time, from the parents concern.

This is not how to build strong muscles either in the class-room learning or out in the field running muscles by creating mix feelings that is sensitive to others or making joggs.That shows you are not sensitive to others.

They say the teacher is only there in classroom offending us.I have seen it in colleges, high schools coaches and teaching in class-room in public education.

It is not about how much English you speak,it is about how much seriousness you are along with your heart, care and kids take time to respond with your excitement.

When kids knows you are trying, they too try.But when they know you are pretending, they too pretend and the excitement becomes of no good production.

How is that sound?Please do the editing to make sense for you all.

Please know that,I'm at work and kids take me serious,so don't mislead my classroom teaching,or I will send you to the principal's office stay there all-day.

Relax,perhaps you need to sit in a corner and read the map of Africa and find lake victoria,Nandi Hills and the landscape of schools in that area,imagine how are the students study in that rigion?

Not me.I'm already well relax.I'm also laughing about your re-action towards my respond,I realize that you don't want to take things very serious. I also know when you want to be serious too.It is the work of a good teacher is.

I did put in 121 minutes today,it was much easier today than yesterday.I ran through Copper hills 61 minutes out and back the same route.I'm in 13 week, the 86 day of training phase II.

keep up the good work....you are doing great....but don't be so sensitive. I would love to go to Kenya some day and see the areas you describe. I have been sponsoring children in Kenya, through the Christian Childrens Fund for 15 years. I am on my 4th child. (for orphans and very poor kids). They write me letters thanking me for my support which allows them to get such basic things like mosquito nets, vaccinations against disease and money to buy a goat.) The kids in America are so spoiled, generally speaking. That is why the Kenyans are so much superior and much deeper in talent in the distance events these days. (not to mention the benefits of a physical upbringing at altitude, that of course, is a huge advantage in developing the lungs). American kids need to walk away from the internet and cable tv and 'get to work'! You are a good example to them.

This is a very valid concern. Track, cross country is extremely strenuous and doesn't get the glamour attached to it like football and basketball. It is very hard to motivate TV and fast food addicted kids to work there buts off and then not get much recognition from their peers. I have been trying to figure this out myself. I think Henry is right, the youth are our future. There is some hope and I like that. Without hope we have nothing.

Of course, I'm no world beater, but I have always loved activity, and running, and take it very seriously. When I was a kid in England in the 60s, gym-class and playtime were SERIOUS! It was a BIG DEAL whenever we did a soccer game, or a field day, or whatever. It was instilled in us that this was very important and meaningful. It really mattered.

These days, in Canada, I often go to the High School track, and while I'm there, I observe gym class. There's no passion, no importance attatched to it. If someone is serious and plays hard, they are an outcast. It's watered down namby pamby "let's go outside and pretend we did something called fitness". I think this attitude has pervaded all of our scholls, and maybe not just in the area of physical activity, and I think that the post-war period was different. This is why the "first world countries" used to dominate, and many of their records are from the 80s, done by people who took it all very seriously and passionately as kids in the 60s-70s.....ah but I ramble.....
