that’s what I saw on socials but I didn’t look too hard to verify. They said there was mental status changes which would give more credence to being pulled
While I believe in clean sport, this post is brutally honest about being a male in the mid-2020s and I can see WHY men do this to a degree. More than just peptides and BPC-157. The root of this convo is about fairness and expectations for men/of men, to an extent. The peptides/testing is the surface-level manifestation of a deeper issue IMO. I may be wrong.
Men have to be protectors/providers, have great jobs, etc., provide for families, etc. I see things like this on the askmen and askmenover30 subreddits, guys are stressed and burned to the core by 35-40, and they are 20-25 years from retirement. Plus spousal issues and kids. So the peptides seem like an expensive but worthwhile shortcut, these men have one advantage in that $ is not an issue.
The last sentence is brutal but true--at a certain point men are expected to be in the background, as accessories to their families and in-laws, and just provide, provide, provide, etc. To be fair the best couples equally share parenting duties and both work, etc. But not always the case.
This does not excuse people from doing this and making the sport unfair but the post does a good job explaining why certain folks act they way they do (not calling anyone out either).
Oh yes it’s so hard and tragic to be a middle class, middle age man in America...
I have no idea but I'd love to know if anyone has contacted Eugene or WADA/USADA and received a response. I'm sure they have PR/communications people that handle intake/public inquiries, etc.
Sage contacted USADA and he says they responded. As for Cam claiming that if PEDs aren't explicitly banned in a waiver, they're allowed by the race. Here's the last line of the waiver Cam signed:
Eugene Marathon wrote:

Here's the press release announcing the USATF and Eugene Marathon partnership:
Eugene Marathon and the USATF Oregon Association are proud to announce the 2026 Eugene Marathon and Half Marathon races will be the official USATF Oregon championship races in 2026. This is the second year that the Eugene Mar...
And here's a big long article on USATF Sanctioning events
The important part re Cam is this bit:
USATF Oregon wrote:
The sanction is also a contract, which evidences the event's commitment to follow national and international rules and regulations of the sport, and to provide a safe environment for the participants and spectators. Once the event has satisfied the sanction requirements, the event's application for sanction is approved.
10.7.2 Admission of an anti-doping rule violation in the absence of other evidence
Where an Athlete or other Person voluntarily admits the commission of an anti-doping rule violation before having received notice of a Sample collection that could establish an anti-doping rule violation (or, in the case of an anti-doping rule violation other than Rule 2.1, before receiving first notice of the admitted violation pursuant to Rule 7) and that admission is the only reliable evidence of the violation at the time of admission, then the period of Ineligibility may be reduced, but not below one-half of the period of Ineligibility otherwise applicable.
[Comment to Rule 10.7.2: This Rule is intended to apply when an Athlete or other Person comes forward and admits to an anti-doping rule violation in circumstances where no Anti-Doping Organisation is aware that an anti-doping rule violation might have been committed. It is not intended to apply to circumstances where the admission occurs after the Athlete or other Person believes they are about to be caught. The amount by which the otherwise applicable period of Ineligibility is reduced should be based on the likelihood that the Athlete or other Person would have been caught had they not come forward voluntarily.]
And here is the USATF rule that applies the WADA code to anyone participating in a USATF sanctioned race:
All Event participants (including competitors, each member of the competitor’s team, and all athlete support personnel involved in the Event) acknowledge and agree that they are subject to the Code and the USADA Protocol, and that they are required to abide by all such rules and by the anti-doping rules of USA Track & Field and the Sanctioning Body. Anti- doping rule violations will be adjudicated in accordance with the USADA Protocol, and each participant agrees that their sole, exclusive, final and binding remedy in relation to any potential anti- doping rule violation alleged by USADA and/or in response to any matter relating to anti-doping, sample collection, drug testing, doping control, results management and/or USADA shall be arbitration in accordance with the USADA Protocol.
So there you have it, the Eugene Marathon was USATF sanctioned, which means it was run under the rules of USATF and the WADA code. And Cam Hanes, as a registered runner, signed an waiver where he agreed to follow the rules of the event.
In his endless need to be a victim because someone with no real job, lots of sponsorships that pay him to run and hunt is just a "regular guy" trying to make ends meet off his 1.8 million followers on the 'gram, Cam has endlessly tried to come up with reasons for why he's not wrong to dope and then run the race. Or that the rules didn't apply to him.
To paraphrase another well known cliche, ignorance of the rules are not a defense. Further, Cam's meltdown undermined his ability to get a reduced suspension from USADA under the WADA code and his targeting of Sage may violate Rule 12 of the WADA code too.
The waiver Cam signed and the USATF sanctioning of the race mean at a minimum his results should be disqualified. Really, he should be banned and his meltdown should lengthen the ban. It's a pretty open and shut case, despite the noise Cam keeps trying to make to get the story to go away (the Trump playbook really only works for Trump).
I genuinely believe Cam is aware of his mistake, or he wouldn’t be so childish and defensive about it. His attitude makes me think he wanted to be proud of the 2:39 and brag about it, but now realizes it’s “most likely” not genuine without peptides, TRT, or similar supplements. It was a humble brag (until exposed) Deep down, he wishes it was real…Mark Twight aptly described it about extreme alpine climbing: “The people who know… KNOW.” Mark described it as just coming up short on a summit, but CAM didn’t make the summit… and is probably lying to himself/family/friends/fans about how he got there or at least leaving out some juicy details to keep his myth alive…he (apparently) cut the switch-backs…maybe took the train…cut the course, and hopped in a moving RV.

You know as well as I do that rules mean nothing. They are guidelines written by the people in power. Well guess what. Guidelines change and so do the people in power. If me and the rest of the Camaniacs can come together and work to have the rules changed, we can finally have a sport which does not discriminate against dopers and where everyone can finally be treated equally. We don’t have to submit our consciences to these invisible rule dictators. If we Camaniacs come together we can finally live in a world where there is Fair Sport.

Wait.. was cam rules a troll the entire time or is he capitulating and trying to appear to be a troll to save face.

I’ve been a troll the whole time. I didn’t even know who Cam Hanes or Sage Canaday were before this thread started. Well I may have heard Sage’s name a few times over the years, but I had completely forgotten who he was. I hadn’t heard of Cam before and yet defended him based on only context in this thread and doing minimal research. The reactions over the last few days were really funny. Some people without question thought that I was serious and were really angry that somebody on Letsrun was actually defending not only Cam, but doping itself. Some clearly thought that I was Cam himself, though I never claimed to be. Of course doping is wrong. I got a few people to write multi paragraph insults against me. I’m pretty impressed with myself. This is one of the greatest troll runs in Letsrun history. I had everyone fooled. There was a poster before me who sort of vaguely defended Cam, and I just thought this is really a great opportunity because it seemed like a lot of people were already pretty mad at Cam, and were just going to lose it if I went against the narrative. And that is exactly what happened. Over 50% of my posts were deleted simply because people were so angry at my fake opinions. Everyone, thanks for being good sports. Continue to fight the good fight against doping and demand a clean sport.

So to you, fair sport primarily rewards the amount of money one spends on pharmacology and one’s willingness to harm one’s health?

I’m a troll. I just admitted it in the post above yours. I’ve been trolling on this thread the last few days.

The reminder I needed to get tf off this website. Thanks.
Well that is of course your choice. I tend to think this website has become really boring to be honest. Some people take themselves unbelievably too seriously on here.

Hmmm…sure you are ; )
I had no idea who Cam Hanes was before I read his name on the title of this thread. Since then, I have maybe viewed about ten cumulative minutes of his content. My first reaction, is that he doesn’t really seem like a runner at all. He doesn’t fit the mold. But that’s only my initial reaction, because I have barely viewed or listened to him. If I would have stumbled on his content by accident, I probably would have just assumed that he is a hunting enthusiast and nothing else.
